Recommended psi or contact patch psi for street driving?

So do you all run your tires at mfg recommended psi (adjusted for tire size/load rating) or by contact patch testing to get even contact? I'm switching from 285/70r17 (c load) to 255/80r17 (e-load) and want to get the longest life out of the tire. Mfg Adjusted psi recommendation is 38psi for my 285s but goes to 42 for the 255s. That feels like it's gonna ballon too me and wear center (along with harsher ride.) Curious to how you all adjust psi when you switch tire sizes. What is the minimum clearance you consider safe?

For example, a 6-7 inch clearance for a regular SUV. Is that enough, or for some off-road vehicles, does it need a lift? submitted by /u/Total-Passage6303 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Heading up north for a daytrip and could stop anywhere from West Branch to Trout Lake. Will be running a Pro r 4 which is 74” wide and would like to do a couple hundred mile loop or at least 150. I ride around Luzerne mainly because I grew up going to that area and love it but like to see other areas. I’ve never been riding in the UP in summer, just sleds in winter so like to get up there eventually. Kobalt 1/2” Impact Wrench

So I’m looking at getting a Kobalt 1/2” impact wrench. Right now Lowe’s has the Next Gen 24volt variable speed drive 1/2” impact on sale for $149 with a battery and then the XTR 24 volt variable speed drive 1/2” impact with battery for $199. With that said I wondering which would be better for a DIY mechanic like myself. I work on my Jeep and other cars and carry tools with me on/off the trail. My main reason I’m getting an impact is for tire removal and some suspension components which have a tighten torque of 190ftlbs. Do you think it’s best to have the smaller of the 2 choices or is it wor ..read more

Front end recovery points

Hi guys, first time poster here and not necessarily into full blown offroading. I've just got a question about the different kinds of recover points you can out on the front end. I've seen 2 different kinds for my truck; one that has D-Ring mounted right below the bumper and one that has Hooks mounted right below the bumper. Which one of the two would be easier to use for basic stuff like flat towing out of situations (I have had to get this thing towed before and Jeep didn't add any factory recovery or towing points go figure). I don't think that I'll take this truck on anything heavy o ..read more

33’s on 17’s vs 35’s on 18’s

Looking to balance highway efficiency and off road performance for airing down with my wheel/tire setup. ‘23 F150. Which setup would be best? Level with Bilstein 6112’s and 33” tires (or larger if I can fit them) on 17’s 4” BDS lift and 35” tires on 18’s. Cannot do 17’s with this lift due to a steering/suspension component clearance issue. Off-roading for me is mostly just forest service roads, but I spend a lot of time on them hunting and want to soften the ride. At the same time, I put a good amount of highway miles on getting to those forest roads. submitted by /u/SteveAndTheCrigBoy ..read more
