I'm looking for new work where Employer allows me to work remotely outside Germany (Dubai) for extended periods. Based on my research, a new regulation exception went into force on July 2023, which allow employee to remain under the social security system if worked remotely for less than 50% (not 25% as earlier). I hope to be allowed to stay the maximum period of time, due to family emergency issue, but don't want to loose my newly acquired residency, which i worked to get it for long... maximum Remote work period for (outside EU) for Blue card visa ..read more

So, I have been living and working in Malta as a UK citizen, prior to Brexit. So since I am a resident, I have been able to continue working there. Now, my partner moved to Germany, he is a German National, I wish to join him there, but the info on whether I require a working visa is not clear. Since I am currently working and living in the EU, with a residential status in Malta. I am being told a working visa will be over 3000 euro and May not be accepted due to a lower salary. If anyone... Help. UK citizen working in Malta, wishes to work in Germany ..read more

Hi everybody, I am a Canadian woman having midlife wanderlust (I am 53), so I started researching how to find a job and live for a bit in Germany. I hold MBA and worked for 20 years in Canadian financial services in audit and compliance. My German is very rusty and needs a refresh but I am not too worried about it - I used to speak decent German 30 years ago, so eventually I will recall it. Would appreciate tips and links how to find apartment rentals and English speaking jobs. And any... Canadian woman hoping to live and work in Germany ..read more

Hello! I am a U.S. citizen and moved to Germany with my husband and kids about 3 years ago. My husband (German citizen) had his US greencard but recently turned it in with his I-407. Unfortunately we are planning on going back to USA in about 2years (or sooner) due to personal reasons. Question: does he need to first file his 8854 to IRS before we file his I-130? Or should we file I-130 and see what happens before tax season 2024 rolls by (as this is the time he would need to file form... Form 8854 before I-130 ..read more

I am 56 years old and am applying for a job in Germany that looks promising. Assuming that I get an offer, are there any disadvantages or things I should consider, since I would probably only spend about 10 years working before I retire? I know I will have to work out things like how to handle my U.S. accounts and retirement investments, and I’m in the process of learning about that. I am finding it difficult to determine how my financial situation will be affected because I will stop... Disadvantages of moving to Germany as U.S. citizen close to retirement ..read more

I have the following question. I (German citizen) lived with my wife (Indian citizen) for several years in Germany. She has a 'Niederlassungserlaubnis' (permanent residence permit) from this time. We moved abroad in August 2023. Usually the Niederlassungserlaubnis expires after 6 months abroad. There is however a special if one is married to a German citizen. The relevant law (paragraph 51 of the 'Aufenthaltsgesetz') says that a Niederlassungserlaubnis doesn't expire if the spouse is a... Re-entry with 'Niederlassungserlaubnis' after 6 months ..read more
