Cloud Tree Gallery is excited to announce our group photography show entitled Generation Loss: Image Making in an Age of Over-Saturation. In analog media development, the term “generation loss” refers to the modification of content and reduction of detail when duplicates or multiple generations of copies are created. "Generation Loss" takes the pulse of photography in an age where everyone is a photographer. The show highlights the work of 12 innovative photographers, printmakers, painters, and collage artists utilizing and interpreting photographic content as a primary source for their ..read more

a solo exhibition of new work by Dave McClinton. PYRE is a continuation of McClinton’s Black Life series, an ongoing project which began in 2015 and aims to illustrate the inner life-cycle of Black people in America. This newest body of digital collages explores the idea that the anger of the African-American community is often portrayed as a threat, whereas the anger of “traditional” communities is depicted as righteous. This paradigm stokes the fires we try to simultaneously hide and harness. McClinton’s intention is to seize this moment in history to create work that compels his audience t ..read more

Solicited Colour by Dave McClinton In 2022 Juneteenth Cincinnati commissioned new works by 10 artists and 10 poets exploring the promise and reality of “freedom” as experienced by those whose lives and destinies were touched by emancipation. Each artist created his or her graphic impression, which was then interpreted by a poet. Their work was exhibited at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center in February and March, 2022, accompanied by four evening cabaret sessions at the Art Center. Click HERE to view a short video collage of all of the evening performances. They also were exhibited at the 2022 C ..read more

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art? Both local and national issues, while heightened by the internet, are not all that different from our recent past. Injustice, proliferation of beauty standards, cultural appropriation, and America’s legacy of racial inequity. I think my work, it’s ethos anyway, could have existed seventy years ago. The role hasn’t changed. But the opportunity technology presents us with has made it possible for that role to be more effec ..read more

Every year, the Texas Book Festival selects a piece by a Texas artist to represent the Festival Weekend and to celebrate the arts in Texas. It’s a tradition that began in 1998, and through the years, we’ve been lucky to highlight works of acclaimed artists such as Marc Burckhardt, Lance Letscher, Julie Speed, Randal Ford, Keith Carter, Kate Breakey, and Jack Unruh. Now, we are proud to unveil the official 2019 Festival Poster: “Burgeoning,” a mixed-media digital collage by Austin-based artist and graphic designer Dave McClinton. “Burgeoning” will be featured on this year’s Fe ..read more

I was asked to participate in an artist talk this past weekend. And it was great. Great to be given a platform to discuss how art can be created to empower and enable conversations that may be hard to start. "ART FOR SOCIAL CHANGE" There is no denying the power of art. For centuries artists have used their work to not only shine a light on the injustices of the times, but ignite change. Today is no different. Meet local artists in Austin who are committed to creating art that affects deep and lasting social change. By the way… the music act that was onstage right before the talk (Aaron Steph ..read more
