Per this Facebook video it seems Solaris is looking at bringing their electric and fuel cell models to North America (potentially in addition to the trolley if Vancouver is interested). Briefly shown in the video is an Urbino with EASB bumpers. Of course only time will tell if Solaris will be successful here given CMVSS/FMVSS, Buy America, Altoona testing and all the other hurdles. However, they seem to have a good reputation and a solid share of the market in Europe (more so than Van Hool).  ..read more

Vadner Doelen: Electric buses to be assembled in Windsor Designed in China, powered by Chinese-made batteries WINDSOR, Ont. -- Windsor’s automotive industry is about to start growing again with the first new assembly operation to locate here in decades. But it won’t be the Detroit Three or any other well-known automotive company opening the facility, and the plant won’t produce cars or trucks. Try buses — big, lithiumion powered, electric buses meant for city transit authorities. Designed in China, powered by Chinese-made batteries. East Wind Group Inc. of Mississauga has chosen Windsor for as ..read more

Does anyone have more information on this Delta, BC-based company, the buses it produced, and who else they were operated by? (This company became a truck equipment supplier called Commercial Truck Equipment Co. in 2013, and no longer manufactures its own products, let alone buses) All I know is that: They made cutaways based on vans Their bodies were made of 100% aluminum instead of fiberglass and steel They had two models: the Tundra, a very small bus based on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis and possibly the Ford E350, and the Polar, their most popular model which was a st ..read more

End of the ENC Arrivo and XHF

I noticed today that ENC has removed their Arrivo and XHF product lines from their website in the last few weeks. This follows the removal of the IC-based Passport-HD line earlier this year. As far as I can tell, this marks the end of US/Canadian high floor transit bus production. As Eldorado re-focuses on the Axess and Ez-Rider II products, the legacy models seem to have passed on without note or ceremony. Nevertheless, I thought the discontinuation of these models ought to be noted amongst those who might care.   I should note that, with some digging, you can still find the web-pag ..read more

The oddity: Transit Bus Manufacturing MRT-30

Since nobody mentioned this bizarre bus here, I wanted to share this model that nobody heard of that the company by the name of “Transit Bus Manufacturing” who built 20 MRT-30 buses on a Isuzu chassis for the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority in 1985, who was the sole operator while others such as rental car and private tour companies owned that model. TBM’s journey as a bus maker was short lived as that company was sued by General Motors Corporation for allegations of copyright infringement due to the resemblance and appearance of its RTS II buses at the time. Because of the law ..read more
