The food waste is a plague. According to ONU, about one third of the food produced on a global scale every year is wasted: it is a quantity amounting to around 1.3 billion tons of food. This happens while about 800 million people are starving.
Could we avoid this waste? In a good percentage yes, thanks to the optimized cold: this is highlighted by a study carried out by a team of researchers of the University of Michigan. According to the conclusions they have reached, we might avoid wasting about 620 million tons of food by means of fully refrigerated food provisioning chains worldwide.

Integral part is the refrigerated transport, whose global market is rapidly expanding, fuelled by the growing food trade, by the increase of the consumption of perishable products, by the expansion of the e-commerce and by the attention to the reduction of food wastes.

This year’s Eurovent Annual Meeting was open to all members, to create an inclusive platform to review and exchange ideas on the activities of the association. The Annual Meeting included presentations from the European Commission’s DG ENER on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) recast and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). ASHRAE and UNEP’s OzonAction have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to renew and expand their long-standing collaboration on environmental protection and sustainable development in the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors.
