Former USC forward Vince Iwuchukwu has committed to St. John’s. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.8 boards last season. His sister will be a freshman on the USC women’s basketball team in the fall. What are the odds Rick Pitino gets more out of him than Andy Enfield? USC currently has a “hold on all commencement-related communications until further notice.” The bunker is in full-operational mode. Here’s some of BetOnline’s prop bets for the NFL Draft: Will No. 1 overall pick cry? Yes      +700     (7/1) No         -2000 ..read more

USC Morning Buzz: Post-Spring Needs Change

I’m told that in post-scrimmage conversations, USC’s coaching staff would like to add 2 defensive tackles; 1-2 offensive linemen; a wide receiver and perhaps even a tight end, if a suitable candidate is available. There even some consideration to adding another linebacker but that was a backburner issue. This certainly sounds like more activity than was projected about 4-5 weeks ago by Lincoln Riley. It’s also dependent on how many good players are actually available. Here’s the transfer activity from the past couple days: Wide receiver Kyle Ford, who left USC for UCLA last year, is expected ..read more

USC just added its third recruit of the day as Boise State guard Chibuzo Agbo committed to the Trojans. Agbo, who is 6-7, was Boise State’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.7 points per game last season. He also shot 40.9 percent on 3-pointers. He was reportedly seeking $500,000 in NIL money. So we have a pretty good idea of the roster now: Agbo, Bowling Green forward Rashaun Agee, UMass forward Josh Cohen, Northern Colorado forward Saint Thomas, UC San Diego guard Bryce Pope, Yale forward Matt Knowling, Penn guard Clark Slajchert and Sierra Canyon guard Isaiah Elohim. I see a lot of shooti ..read more

USC Notes: Coaches Trying Hard For Wide Receiver

There was a club basketball showcase over the weekend and during a game, you know what a couple coaches said? That a coach of one of top five high school programs in California was already upset from dealing with Eric Musselman. I didn’t take their word for it, so I checked with someone who has known the high school coach for years to check it out. “He isn’t impressed (with Musselman),” the friend said. Do I think Musselman is a good coach? Yes. Do I think he will work hard to succeed? Yes. But even the day he interviewed with USC, I wrote that there is a lot that comes with Musselman. One of ..read more

Morning Buzz: A Lot Going On At USC

USC got a commitment Sunday from Florida State cornerback Greedy Vance. Vance appeared in all 14 games with five starts last season and recorded 18 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups. He was competing to play nickel back at Florida State spring practice. It shows USC’s coaching staff isn’t as confident as some fans regarding the secondary. USC cornerback Ceyair Wright will meet with the coaching staff early this week to discuss his future and whether he will enter the transfer portal. Wright did not participate in spring practice and is not on the current roster. Did he not pa ..read more

It’s A Slow Rebuild For Eric Musselman

Eric Musselman inherited a non-roster at USC, so he needs to be aggressive taking players. But did you expect his first commitments would be players who were All-Big Sky; All-Big West; All-Ivy League and All-Atlantic 10? The latest is Saint Thomas, a 6-7 junior from Northern Colorado who averaged 19.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this past season. It’ll be interesting to see how these players’ skills will translate to the Big Ten. USC now has seven players. When does it get a big-time transfer? Musselman has hired former Washington player and assistant coach Will Conroy. I a ..read more

USC Sunday Buzz: Some Spring Game Thoughts

I’m trying to remember when a spring game really mattered at USC. The day before the 2003 spring game, Pete Carroll named Matt Leinart the starting quarterback. Leinart then looked average in the spring game. Did it mean anything for the fall? Nope. But with a marquee program like USC, the hype sometimes becomes so overwhelming, a spring game can either confirm or contradict it. First, a good thing. The defense played aggressive and more importantly, I’d say was less confused then when it tried to figure out what Alex Grinch wanted. That’s something I’ve heard when multiple players the past 2 ..read more

If you need a spring game takeaway, is the defense’s improvement going to offset the ordinary look of the offense? Miller Moss with a short TD pass. So far, Jayden Maiva has outplayed Miller Moss. Miller Moss throws another interception on tipped pass and Prophet Brown goes 100-yards for TD. Tough day for Moss. Third-string offense scores a TD as running back Bryan Jackson has 3-yard run. Finally a touchdown. Jayden Maiava to Makai Lemon on a 17-yard play. The QB Derby is back on! hird-string QB Jake Jensen now intercepted. Third of day for offense. The Caleb Williams Era is officially over. M ..read more

The USC spring scrimmage is today! One last chance for the Pac-12 Network to get you if you are not actually going to the Coliseum. Unlike some, I don’t like to overreact to spring games because the roster is missing players who will be here in the fall, especially in the transfer portal era. I’d say the things to watch today are the overall approach of the defense and the offensive line. Also, is there actually going to be a quarterback derby? It might be hard to make a huge judgement based on a half of football but remember this is the first real look for the public and media of the team, be ..read more
