Here are pictures of the finished lid structure.  The square tubes I am using are .75" and .065" wall.  This will help keep the weight down but be plenty stiff enough for the structure.   I also added .125" reinforcing plates for the hinges on the passenger side and the latches & handles on the driver side.  After all the welding I ground the welds down flush so the sheet metal has a smooth surface to lay on.   I also welded in "pads" on the corner of the lid and brackets in the tub corners...I wanted to build a hard stop for the lid so the weight of the lid ..read more
