Salisbury University’s nursing program (BSN) is one of the possibilities for my D. During the generic campus visit the tour guides pointed to the Nursing Dept building and said something like “we’re not going to take you in there because it old and in disrepair”. And later when they were shown some supposedly High Fidelity manekins, the prospective students were told that no one really knows how to use them at all.
Are there any Salisbury nursing grads or current students that can chime in?
Do you have friends that went to other MD (or nearby universities) also for nursing and what do they tel ..read more

Here is a beginning of a list of progression GPAs for direct admit BSN programs.
Besides GPA, academic progression requirements typically include C or higher grades in all major courses, with any C- or lower grade needing to be repeated, with a second C- or lower grade in any major course resulting in dismissal from the program. There are typically also other requirements not in the academic area.

Hi everyone. I was hoping I could pick your collective brain about creating a BSN college list.
My high school D26 is starting to create a list of colleges with direct entry BSN programs to visit and explore beginning this spring. I thought I would reach out to this group to help create a well-rounded list. In particular, I am most concerned about finding “safety” or “likely” schools.
She is looking for a traditional college experience (school spirit, D1 sports, etc.) w/ a direct admit BSN program. We live in the midwest, but D is open to attending school anywhere and likes the idea of a warme ..read more

How competitive is the admittance to the nursing programs (i.e. upper division)? Is it based just on pre-nursing GPA and test scores? Who can compete for the nursing spots? Any undergrad from any other schools that has fulfilled the pre-requisites? Community college graduates? current RN nurses that don’t have a BSN? Would some category be favored - e.g. a certain community college, or the pre-nursing sophomores from the same school are favored? In particular, I am interested in U of Arizona and Cal State Long Beach. Thank you!

My daughter was just accepted into the Honors College at USC and with it comes a direct admittance to the upper level nursing program. Does anyone have opinions regarding the program at South Carolina? She’s also considering the programs at Clemson, Miami Univ of Ohio, Marquette, and Belmont. She’s also in the Honors Colleges for Clemson and Miami if that makes a difference.

Hi everyone, I am a senior in high school and I have been accepted to BSN programs in nursing at Ohio State, UAB, Pitt, Penn State, and Rutgers. I would love to hear some positive or negative stories from current or former students who attended these schools. How was the academic rigor, the clinical experience, the faculty support, the campus life, and the job placement? What did you like or dislike about the program and the school? How did you choose between these schools or others? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My D was accepted for Fall 2024 at Sonoma State University. She applied with pre-nursing as her first choice but just missed the necessary multi-factor score, and so was admitted as undeclared (her second choice). The website states that being undeclared makes it tough to get into the needed nursing pre-req classes. Our thought is that she could switch to a biology major (which is open and not impacted) and then she would be able to take all the nursing pre-reqs during her first 2 years (most of which are BIO classes anyway). They state that she does not need to be pre-nursing to apply to the ..read more

Non medical parent here. I know ZERO about nursing. Our child has narrowed down their choices to University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, Cincinnati (DA), Robert Morris (DA), and Ohio State in that order.
He’s basing a lot of his decision on how many clinical hours each program provides and the listed curriculum in each school’s nursing student handbook. He also is taking into account his chances of actually making it into the programs that aren’t DA.
Are these reasonable ways to decide on a program? And when we do our final visits, what questions should we be asking of the programs? What ar ..read more
