The only zippered wading boots I have seen are for wading the salt flats otherwise the boa as mentioned above for wading the rivers. I'll caution that the Boa system does have the reputation for mechanical failure though because of the sand and grit that its exposed to when wading the river ..read more

New Spider mat in the drift boat this afternoon

Last year's Put it in today; it went faster than I expected...after I realized I didn't have to make templates...I could just use the foam from last year... My regular fishing partner has some - valid - concerns that the spider mat will trap water and get stanky if I don't hose it out if it gets really wet.  We'll see.  I don't feel like spending the time and money it'd take to strip the f'd floor paint off and do something like self adhesive EVA foam...we'll see how this works out this season and move forward from there, if I need to. Next up is moving that line lock for the an ..read more

I'm guessing question 2 has something to do with trying to increase license sales and participation within the state and little to do with science. https://www.wpr.org/news/dnr-fish-wildlife-account-approaching-deficit I agree with Chiro on the regulations being too complicated.   They could/should be simplified to a degree ..read more

No your eyes are not deceiving you. You want AAA Magnum Bucktail, huh? Ya, us too. Glorious, long, jet black bucktail is one of the most coveted fly tying materials on the planet and nearly impossible to obtain. For every 1,000 tails, it is rare to find 1 true AAA. And even if you find the long fiber, once you dye it jet black, you begin to compromise the length. It’s a problem we have wrestled with here at Musky Fool since our founding. We considered all possible options. How does one make such a unicorn material? Could we develop an identical synthetic? Could we grow it in a lab? After muc ..read more

I use a small (13" x 6" x 8") Cabela's gear bag that I got for cheap ($10) many years ago that I sling over my shoulder sans fly vest when I wade for smallies.  It carries several large fly boxes, spools of tippet, nippers, hemostats, sunscreen, large arbor fly reel, fishing license, etc ..read more

WIHEXROD wrote on Yesterday at 5:17pm: Riverstick Custombuilt wading staffs. Look in the classified ads on the Classic Flyrod Forum. Built like a tank. Scott   I will second this.  I purchased it 3 years ago when I developed a bad bout of vertigo.  You can trust your life with it and if needed, beat off a charging bear.  It's a great staff in heavy water and rocky terrain. Rick is great to work with and he'll recommend staff length according to your height.  Here's the link to the classifieds that Scott mentioned.  Here's a link to Rick's posting that Scott men ..read more
