May be a bit off topic for here, but I was wondering, since there is no metal detector that is designed specifically for gold jewelry (I mean more than rings, like chains, pendants, etc.), would a gold metal detector be a good substitute? I know that processed gold is different from raw gold, which is why I ask.
If you agree it is, is there a particular brand/model you recommend. I've been away from detecting for a little while ..read more

Hi all!
I’m new to the forum and new to gold prospecting, however, I’ve been prospecting fossils for several years now… With that said, I apologize in advance for my newbie questions.
I am working on building a mini mobile wash plant for wet classifying fossils and sluicing gold. I just ordered an Adventures In Gold Prospecting (AIGP) 6” x 44” Mini Power Sluice outfitted with Dream Mat and I intend to mount everything in the bed of a Gorilla Cart (think big off-road wagon)
My main...

Howdy all..
I'm on the Klamath River in Northern Cali.
All Winter long we've had nothing but washout
Since the Mckinney fire, Holy Tacoma, Its been awesome. I certain areas have been good to us, but south of the Salmon River have been almost painless.
If it wasn't for my trusty X-terra 705 I'd be dirt bag poor.
OH sure the river is high due to dam removals, but the washouts are INSANE*
I DON'T MIND bragging a bit either. H. H ..read more

I'm to the point where I've bought some waders, about 6 different screens that fit my 5 gallon bucket coolection as well as several different pans and always look out for deals on sluice boxes. Any advice or people to join up with? One friend let me pan some of his gold flakes out of a site he had done over in Ohio. Got about 5 flakes so I think I get it if can find some good ground.
Thanks... Guvner ..read more

Every once in awhile you find a piece of gold that resembles something of this world. Looking back, a few years ago I was fortunate to find a nugget that I now call the “Van Halen Nugget.” This .9 gram nugget displays a prominent “v” and an “h” (hence the Van Halen nugget) on its surface. The nugget itself was found hidden beneath the pictured boulder with numerous other smaller pieces of gold. A very pleasing find on that cool spring day. I’ll be posting other similar finds when the time...

I just recently bought a whites TDI sl and wanted to take it out while prospecting. Any ideas of what size coil would work better than others, or should I just stick with the stock 12 or 7.5 coil ? Is this a good Pulse machine to use ? Thanks for reading my post ..read more

Trying to plan a detecting jaunt next year to Rye Patch but curious how folks have done there and the detectors they used. Also, when is the earliest time to get in and hunt there weatherwise?
And if camping there for a week, how good are the campgrounds? Any info is appreciated.

The first trommel I am posting a review on is the Hecklar Fabrication 2410 V. Right off the bat I will say that these trommels are well built for heavy duty commercial use. I used the electric motor version and powered it with a generator. I also used a custom built Gold Claimer hopper/feeder to feed the hopper on the Hecklar. The V version gives you a vibrating hopper and pre wash system that I found to give superior gold recovery. The Gold Claimer feeding system was used to keep pay...
