I thought this was interesting. I've never heard of gold being deposited in this way. Doubt anyone will ever be allowed to prospect and develop it, being where it's located. Still you gotta wonder what other deposits of mineral wealth is down below all that ice.

Is it possible to find gold flakes in slate? I found a small rock the other day and it has gold colored flakes on it. Doesn't appear to be iron pyrite, but not positive. Can you find gold flakes in slate? I live in Rhode island and there's not much gold around here, so I'm doubtful that it's gold.
Lousy pics, but maybe you can see the flakes on it ..read more

For several years I’ve prospected my area. I’ve hit nearly every creek and river in 30 miles. Mostly gravel bars as Ohio gold tends to be pretty small. I traveled up a little creek a bit further than I had in the past. Tested a gravel bar just around a sharp corner and BANG! 40-50 specks. Pan after pan it’s holding strong. The largest chunky black sand, garnets and mixed iron stone and verity’s mjnerals I’ve found to date.
After about 20 pans in and I’ve found this deposit is about...

Now that the winter is almost finished here in the upstate region of NY, been searching for places to explore and prospect. Since a significant portion of New York is public lands, prospecting is not as challenging as one might imagine. Besides that, there are NO mining laws in the state where if one smiles at something, they tax it or regulate it somehow. I do most of my preliminary exploration on Google Earth to find areas that appear worthwhile investigating. One of the characteristics...

Hey all! I've been lurking around the site for years and after many days in the fields I've finally found a location that isn't under a current claim.
I can competently fill and file the paperwork for staking a claim, my issue is with posting the claim markers accurately and the process of making sure I do this properly. Also correctly identifying the land; aliquots metes and bounds is a little confusing but doable.
Anyone with experience who wouldn't mind assisting me with this would be...
