The Melbourne Rebels have again let a Super Rugby Pacific halftime lead slip to fall to the defending champion Crusaders 43-27 in a brutal clash. In their last outing at AAMI Park, the Rebels led the Blues at the break before the visitors blew them away in the second half. While Friday night’s match was a tighter affair, Melbourne’s 12-point halftime lead evaporated with the Crusaders running in four second-half tries. It was a disappointing end to a memorable week for the club, who were looking to celebrate new deals for head coach Kevin Foote and his two assistants. It was also a huge b ..read more

The Hamilton-based Chiefs have showcased their handling skills in teeming rain to beat the Fijian Drua 50-17 and stretch their winning start in Super Rugby Pacific to eight games. The Chiefs scored their first try after only three minutes and added another four to lead 31-12 by halftime. Seven tries were scored in a fast-paced first half despite the constant rain and a slippery field. The rain abated in the second half and the flow of tries also slowed. The Drua began the half with a length-of-the-field try to cut the Chiefs’ lead to 31-17. Almost 25 minutes elapsed before the Chiefs were able ..read more

The Crusaders have done it again. For the sixth time in as many seasons, Scott Robertson’s side have won silverware, this time claiming the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific title after beating the Blues 21-7 in front of a sold-out Eden Park in Auckland. As formidable an outfit the Crusaders are, this went against the script, which read that the Blues would deliver their expectant fans with a fifth title on the back of a standout campaign. Earlier this year, they’d beaten the Crusaders to snap an 18-year winless drought in Christchurch during a record-breaking 15-match unbeaten run to position the ..read more

A wobbly scrum has cost an audacious Queensland Reds in their Super Rugby Pacific quarter-final defeat to the Crusaders. The hosts prevailed 37-15 in Christchurch on Friday night, ending a Reds season crippled by constant key injuries that contributed to a 0-6 record against New Zealand teams. But the Crusaders were made to work for an 11th straight head-to-head win, Reds five-eighth Lawson Creighton missing a penalty kick from 40 metres out, almost directly in front, that would have put them up 18-16 with 30 minutes to play. At that point the Reds were daring to dream of breaking a 19-game lo ..read more
