The Melbourne Rebels have again let a Super Rugby Pacific halftime lead slip to fall to the defending champion Crusaders 43-27 in a brutal clash. The Hamilton-based Chiefs have showcased their handling skills in teeming rain to beat the Fijian Drua 50-17 and stretch their winning start in Super Rugby Pacific to eight games. The Chiefs scored their first try after only three minutes and added another four to lead 31-12 by halftime. Seven tries were scored in a fast-paced first half despite the constant rain and a slippery field. The rain abated in the second half and the flow of tries also slowed. The hosts prevailed 37-15 in Christchurch on Friday night, ending a Reds season crippled by constant key injuries that contributed to a 0-6 record against New Zealand teams. The Blues have overcome the Crusaders 27-23 in a match between the top-ranked New Zealand teams in Super Rugby Pacific on Friday, claiming their first win in Christchurch in 18 years. The Crusaders lost lock and captain Scott Barrett to a red card in the 46th minute when they were trailing 17-10.
