Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a series of magnetic pulses on a targeted area of the brain to relieve symptoms of a mental illness. The repeated exposure stimulates neurons in the brain which has been effective in treatment-resistant depression and other illnesses. So, why does TMS therapy really work? Targeted Brain Stimulation: TMS therapy targets specific areas of the brain that are involved with mood regulation. By directly treating this area, the electrical currents wake up neurons and stimulate the release of neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters help to balance out chemi ..read more

What is Theta-Burst Stimulation (TBS)? TBS is a newer form of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD). TBS has been shown to produce stronger, longer lasting effects on brain activity when compared to standard TMS treatment. During TBS, magnetic pulses are applied to the brain in a specific pattern, referred to as bursts. While standard TMS procedures usually last around 36 minutes per session, TBS only takes a few minutes. The most common theta burst pattern consists of three bursts given at 50 Hz and repeated every 200 ms.  How does TBS work ..read more

What is TMS treatment? TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. TMS treats depression and other mental illnesses by stimulating areas of the brain with low activity. It uses magnetic pulses to non-invasively target the low-activity, which causes depression. TMS is commonly used when other depression treatments have not been effective for the patient. How does accelerated TMS differ from traditional TMS? In comparison to traditional TMS, accelerated TMS is a faster and more accessible form of TMS treatment. Traditional TMS typically takes around 6 weeks to complete while accelerated TM ..read more

What is the SNT Protocol? SAINT (Stanford neuromodulation therapy) uses magnets similar to TMS to non-invasively stimulate the brain. However, unlike TMS, SNT is more intensive, with 10 sessions a day for 5 days. Visit The Today Show’s website to learn more about SNT and hear from Dr. Nolan as he discusses the treatment, benefits, and real-life examples of patient success stories. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), is a relatively new treatment that has been studied for over 20 years. In these years of study, it has been proven as a safe and effective way to treat many mental health disorders. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the process of TMS, it is the process of sending tiny magnetic pulses into the patient’s head to stimulate the parts of the brain that are affected by a certain mental illness. This is a non-invasive treatment, and it does not require anesthesia. There are limited side-effects, though many patients report that the process feels like ..read more

There is no “one size fits all” treatment for depression. Depression (Major Depressive Disorder) is quite common, affecting millions of people in the US. The use of antidepressants and psychiatrist visits are commonly utilized, but may not be successful for everyone. TMS therapy, which was approved by the FDA to treat depression in 2008, is gaining popularity as an effective alternative to traditional treatment. It can also supplement traditional treatment. TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) therapy uses a padded helmet that sends magnetic wave pulses to stimulate certain parts of the bra ..read more

TMS Center of Colorado offers a way to help treat depression, anxiety, and OCD, without all of the expensive medication and their side effects. TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. This treatment uses magnetic fields to stimulate cells in the brain. Because of its repetitive nature, TMS is often referred to as rTMS. This procedure is a safe alternative to traditional ways of treating common mental illnesses.  The magnetic pulses that reach the brain are meant to stimulate the parts of the brain that are affected by illnesses such as MDD (major depressive disorder) and OCD. TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a safe alternative treatment for depression and anxiety, among other common mental illnesses. The procedure can be done in place of medication or taken along with it.  There are two different types of treatment, Deep TMS and standard TMS. The two procedures do essentially the same thing: They administer repeated magnetic waves into the parts of the brain that are believed to be directly linked with illnesses such as OCD and depression. According to BrainsWay.com, standard TMS treatment, using a figure-8 coil, reaches 0.7 centimeters into a patien ..read more
