Why do artists paint clouds? I just watched the movie Twisters and could totally relate to all the storm chasers in the movie. I would have loved to have been a storm chaser if I wasn’t an artist. Being from central Minnesota originally, and seeing my first tornado at age 6, I have always been ..read more

The Wonder of Space Art: A Journey Beyond the Stars Is space art a movement? I’m going to declare that it is, because only a few artists do it, myself included, but it’s growing in popularity. In the vastness of space, where galaxies collide and stars are born, lies a realm of beauty and wonder that captivates the imagination like no other—the world of space art. From breathtaking paintings of distant nebulae to mesmerizing digital renderings of alien landscapes, space art invites us on a journey beyond the stars, igniting a sense of awe and curiosity that knows no bounds. What makes space ar ..read more

Why Alienate Potential Art Lovers

“What, in your estimation, is the most overrated thing in the art world?  Hyper-specificity. Esoteric work that speaks only to very small groups of people or that requires an extensive amount of explanation to engage with. More and more I think about the balance between alienating an audience and inviting them in. I don’t think this has to preclude complexity, and I’m not pro-populism. I just hate giving time to something, and then feeling like, “Ok, so what?” That misses the mark for me. Art has to speak for itself.” – Emma Fernberger, from Artnet   So true! I really don’t like ar ..read more
