Baseball, a sport absent at Tennessee State for over 30 years, is reportedly returning. President Glenda Glover and athletic director Mikki Allen confirmed to The Tennesseean that the sport will be back at the HBCU between 2025 and 2028. The newspaper also reported that the school will add women’s soccer, swimming, and diving to remain Title IX compliant. Tennessee State last had a baseball team in 1993, but it was shut down due to funding issues. Wiley University announces the expansion of the Department of Athletics with the return of softball next spring, and the appointment of Kendrick Biggs as interim coach. Softball will be a club sport for the 2024-25 school year and be upgraded to varsity in 2025-26 – after which the team will compete in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference, currently known as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Amid a fight for its survival after losing its accreditation in February, St. Augustine’s University has announced the athletic program will compete in every sport except one. Football. When St. Augustine’s interim president Marcus Burgess announced the suspension of the 2024 football season two weeks ago, sophomore offensive lineman Antonio Odom had one thought in mind. “I’ll just say it’s truly heartbreaking to hear.
