Where they from? Los Angeles, CA. The NFL draft was this past weekend. Is there any greater non-event in the universe? I mean, it literally could be summed up as an e-mail instead of the brash decadence the NFL trots out every April. I guess Goodell just can’t handle not having his professional brain trauma operation not be the center of the sport universe for fifteen fucking minutes. That being said, I watched every round and my team is going 12-5 next year. Why the hype? If this is your first time hearing about this group, then you seriously have a lot of catching up to do. The GOATED west c ..read more

Where they from? Pilsen, Czechia. The NHL playoffs are here and my team is in it. What this means is that for the next few weeks I will have to explain to various people in my life that I can’t hang out on a random Tuesday night in May because I have to watch a bunch of grown men on ice skates run up and down in an igloo for three hours while screaming “SHOOT THE FUCKING PUCK!” as loud as I can. And what is my reward for doing this? Well if my team wins, I get to do it for another three weeks. Why the hype? LilixElbe, angular powerviolence from Pilsen. Got a good ring to it, right? It’s really ..read more

Where they from? Dayton, Ohio. This week is The Masters, which means that ESPN is supplementing all its daytime coverage with fucking golf. Do they not realize what this has done to the under-employed demographic that make up their daytime viewers? I would rather watch Pat McAfee bloviate for two hours and trust me, I FUCKING HATE THAT GUY. Why the hype? Let’s just get this out of the way: This band’s name is Scrotal Erosion. If that is a dealbreaker, I understand but when you write about grindcore sometimes you just have to put your big boy pants on and accept a stupid band name, because some ..read more

Japanese multi-instrumentalist Kosuke Hashida has been around for a long time, playing guitar with Nihilist Workshop and The Cauterized in the early 2000s. In the time since, he’s played live guitar with American death metal outfit Abysmal Dawn and now riffs with Osaka-based death metal/hardcore group World End Man. With that firm understanding of extreme metal under his belt, Hashida has embarked on a new solo career, with his first album coming out tomorrow, April 5, on Horror Pain Gore Death. The album sees Hashida take on guitar, bass, drum and vocal duties. He’s no slouch on any of t ..read more

Where they from?England, U.K. Baseball started this past week. My World Series prediction is Yankees/Dodgers. I don’t know how accurate that is, I just know it would piss everybody off the most, which would be great. No one deserves to be happy! Especially us Mets fans! Why the hype? OY A BIT OF THE OL’ MASH AND PIE VIOLENCE, EH? I have definitely covered my fair share of British bands here but Munter is by far the MOST British to ever grace the spotlight of Blast Worship. Just imagine a scuzzier, more D-beat version of the Afternoon Gentlemen and you get the idea. Listening to this band is th ..read more

Prepare to be crushed by riffs, torn apart by grows, and pounded into dust by relentless drumming. Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s Suffer is here with a new album, their second full-length but part of a long legacy stretching back to the early days of death metal in 1990. Decibel is proud to showcase this album in it’s full phantasmal glory below. According to vocalist and guitarist C.R. Petit: “Initially, it was preconceived that this was the swan song. We wanted to have one last chance to make a Suffer album that sounded the way every Suffer recording should have sounded. But, this entire p ..read more

Where they from? Los Angeles, California. I know I’m addicted to watching sports because even though I don’t follow college basketball I watched like fifteen games this weekend. Is there any better way to disassociate from an uncomfortable social situation than to just stare at your phone and watch Yale beat Auburn? THEY’RE A FOURTEEN SEED, WHATEVER THAT MEANS! Why the hype? If you’re anything like me, you’re a huge Maruta fan (and gambling addict). The Miami-based group were easily one of the pinnacle death/grind bands of the 2010’s, combing elements of sci-fi infused death metal riffage with ..read more

Where they from? Motherfucking south Jersey. The NCAA basketball tournaments start this weekend. College basketball is the one sport I pay absolutely zero attention to, but I always love making Final Four predictions. This year I have DeVry, Delco, Emerson and Duke. Oh, and let’s just throw the Kansas City Chiefs in there for the Hell of it. Why they hype? THEY ARE BACK AND STINKIER THAN EVER! Been a fan of this band for a long time as they feature several ex-members of the legendary Chainsaw To The Face and just in general tend to create grindviolence that is both eviscerating and, uh, even m ..read more

Where they from? Kaiserslautern, Germany. Normally I chat about sports or other bullshit in this intro section but this weekend Blake Harrison of Pig Destroyer passed away and I just want to pay him a little tribute. Blake was one of the first people I met in the entire grindcore scene, bumping into him at the urinals of Saint Vitus literally changed the trajectory of my life. He was one of the most hilarious and supportive people I’ve ever met and was constantly making a point of promoting new and up-and-coming bands in the scene, a legacy I hope to carry on with this column. Thank you for ev ..read more

Where they from? Zdar Nad Sazavou, Chechnya. Say that 10 times fast! The NFL Combine was this past weekend. I’m a pretty big sports fan but I always violently ignore the NFL offseason, usually because I’m still so pissed off at whatever debacle the Jets fell into during the regular season. Besides, am I really get my nips up for a bunch of adults playing two-hand touch in Indianapolis? No, I save my excitement for Chechnian grindcore bands. Why they hype? As soon as I saw that this band featured members of Needful Things, Lycanthrophy and Controlled Exsistence I clicked “download” as fast as I ..read more
