Distance from sharp E to Bridge

Hi there, I'm finishing an explorer build and I've noticed that a lot of the pictures show the bridge slightly angled, which is for me as I've always distanced the bridge 24.75". From the nut. Can someone provide some insight on this matter ..read more

Hi Everyone, Looking for some guidance/resources on finding someone to appraise and authenticate a large quantity of Brazilian Rosewood I inherited. My father (luthier for 50+ years) passed last Spring and I inherited his supplies/collection...my gifts were more on the playing side and not as a builder. I'm currently inventorying/organizing everything and will be working on completing about 14-15 projects he had been working on. Part of that inventory includes approximately 27 side... Binding step

I don’t know if this is the best place to ask this, but I hope some of the experts here might know. I recently purchased a new Rickenbacker. I noticed i can feel a ‘step’ where the binding meets the wood on side of the body all tthe way around. So it isn’t a smooth, flat seam between the binding and the wood. I am told this is normal and is due to how they scrap the binding in manufacturing. I have other guitars where that transition is perfectly flat, and others (mostly really old ones)... I want to extend the fretboard of my guitar from 21 to 22 frets.

Hello Happy New Year forum. First of all, please understand that we are using Google Translator. I recently purchased a new Grassroots Telecaster. I like everything about it, but the only thing that disappoints me is that it has 21 frets. So, after thinking about it, I saw some cases where the 21st fret was extended to the 22nd fret, and I wanted to do the work myself. I am capable of fret slotting and refretting, more than basic guitar repair, and basic woodworking techniques and tools... Read more ..read more

Wireless vs Wired Solder Pen

I'm looking to upgrade my base level Radio Shack Solder Pen, and was thinking how great it would be to never get the power chord caught on to..., or just tangled up. Are there any benefits to staying with a wired pen besides the obvious issue of the power potentially running out? I haven't really even bothered myself with that one, since I wouldn't waste my cash on something that couldn't hold a reasonable charge. With that said, anyone currently using a wireless that they like enough to... Read more ..read more

Need to fill fingerboard nut slot
Luthier Talk Forums

I'm attempting to install a LSR roller nut into a Stratocaster neck and, though I've gotten the width correct and parallel, my depth is uneven. Pretty sure I don't want to be filing down the more shallow side and need to figure out how to fill the too-deep side. I'm struggling to Google for "guitar nut slot fill" because all I get are how-tos related to the nut itself. Any suggestions appreciated ..read more

Neck reset - Aria AMB-50B
Luthier Talk Forums

Hi, I'm an amateur novice, but I'm keen to learn and enjoy a challenge. This is obviously a cheap plastic bodied Aria, but I'd like to have a go at resetting the neck which is loose and moving in it's socket. The neck is currently pivoting in the neck socket (see linked video). Would anybody be able to advise if the neck is entirely glued in? Should I proceed with removing the fret and using steam/heat to release it or is there possibly some kind of hidden screw or bolt? I don't know if... Read more ..read more
