The summer holidays can be a difficult time for families experiencing food poverty. Without access to Free School Meals or affordable, nutritious food, many parents and children are at risk of going hungry. In fact, in a 2023 survey, 46% of parents reported feeling more stressed and anxious about the summer break than they were excited. In just over a month, our first Community Kitchen in Manchester is turning one – and we want to celebrate with all of you!  Opening our first permanent kitchen site was a huge step forward for our growing Community Cookery School. Working in different locations around the country, our outreach programmes are delivered primarily across community centres, faith spaces, and other venues. As summer approaches, the school holidays can be an especially challenging time for families struggling with food insecurity. Over 2 million children qualified for Free School Meals last academic year, putting them at risk of hunger in the holiday period.
