After almost three years of work, the excavation for the future Fehmarnbelt tunnel is now complete. The consortium FBC has executed the dredging works, consisting of the two Dutch companies Boskalis and Van Oord. At its peak, the combined fleet of FBC had up to 70 work vessels involved in the dredging of the 18-km long tunnel trench. In total, around 15 million cubic meters of soil have been dredged. The Gateway Development Commission (GDC) announced at its board meeting on April 16 that it has submitted all documents required by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to reach a Full-Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) for $6.88 billion in Capital Investment Grants (CIG) Program funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). Construction of the new HS2 line has hit another major milestone with the launch of the fourth – and final – machine being used to build the giant Northolt Tunnel beneath the capital.
