I was watching a video of a guy saying unless you are using his method he can outright you.  What he was doing was using Ultralight with 2 pound test with a Red Wiggler hooked once.  No weight.  Looked like it would work great for smaller fish. oneshot  ..read more

I went out Tuesday since it was going to be in the 60's and fished a county park lake. Lake was very low so I wasn't expecting much or anything really in the cold, murky water. Only caught six crappie total there last year in a dozen trips. Walked to the north end of the lake since wind was out of the south. Fishing a 1/32 duck feather jig 1.5 foot deep around brush and found them in two spots. Ended up with 16 crappie, 11 were 10-15". Off to a good start for 2023 ..read more

Over the last couple of weeks a few things occurred. The Gov allowed us to use masks to go out an fish for food at first then recreationally. The weather began to favor warming up the local lakes and the rain held off for a couple of days each week. So we got out and did chase some sunfish. Mostly using microjigs, like a John Deere from Weaver tackle shop, trout/panfish magnets, and even a redworm on a 1/64 oz jig head under a float was employed. The fish below represent a few different trips and a few different locations. At our local lake we were able to catch the three predominant sunfish ..read more

Fished Bella Vista lake Windsor with Richard Cross yesterday.  He fished primarily crickets and I fished red worms.  I think Richard got a few more than I did, but overall it was hard to say that one bait was superior to the other, except that crickets are a lot less messier.  We did get a couple of good sized redear and they all came on worms. We complained that it seemed slow, and it was a bit slow, but by the end of the day we had 49 decent sized bream to fillet.  We also caught a half dozen small catfish and several bass.  Average size of the bream was good and we ..read more

I gave my favorite crappie lake yesterday a shot yesterday and it was slow. Only caught one ten incher in three hours then wind picked up so tried one spot before I left. Lost a big black crappie on first cast, got me wrapped in brush and hook pulled out. A couple casts later I stuck this slab. I thought it was a 17 incher but only measured 16.25". Still bigger than my previous biggest crappie at this lake by a 1/4".  ..read more
