The purpose of this solution is to enable applications to incorporate AI capabilities. In the upcoming demo, I will showcase how to transcribe and speech (Azure AI Speech), translate (Azure AI Translator) and summarize (Azure AI Language) conversations between customers and businesses without significantly modifying your existing apps.
This application can be helpful in various scenarios where two parties speak different languages and require simultaneous translation. For instance, it can be employed in call centers where the representative and the customer do not speak ..read more

Working with Azure Policy means that you will have to deal with non-compliant resources. You can see them by going to an Azure Policy assignment and clicking on “View Compliance”, or simply by going to the “Compliance” page in Azure Policy. This is a manual process, what if we can automate it a little?
To deal with non-compliant resources we need to use the Get-azPolicyState. With no parameters, you will get all resources evaluated by any policy in the current subscription for the last day. You can get resources from up to the last 90 days by using -From and -To.

The main benefit of using Generative AI in Visual Studio is that it enables you to type faster. It’s important to keep in mind that Copilot is not a compiler, it’s not magical, it is just an assistant. It’s still important to test the generated code thoroughly (in fact there isn’t even a guarantee that Copilot generated code will even compile!)
In our new video, my colleague Gwyn demonstrates how a new feature can be implemented by prompting Copilot in an inline dialog.
The example
First Gwyn starts by placing the cursor in an existing method belonging to a web API. The ..read more

Networking as part of an application architecture continues to grow and we have seen and heard a need to invest in more control and insights. Networking involves joining a network and controlling routing of networking. You may already have seen some of the improvements we have made to the user experience in Azure portal, but we have also been making changes to the backend to help control and ensure compliance of networking configurations. In this blog post I’ll go through some changes you will see light up in the next 3-6 months.

In this blog post we will look at how you would use tfvars to deploy to multiple environments in Azure. Deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to multiple environments, we want to keep scalability in mind along with the thought of removing duplication when possible. Managing infrastructure configurations across different environments can be challenging, this is where using .tfvars comes in and within this blog post I will show you why you using be using them, especially on a per environment basis.
What are tfvars?
Tfvars, short for “Terraform variables,” are an essential aspect of Terraform co ..read more

Microsoft has announced a new feature within the Azure Arc portfolio – Azure Arc Site Manager!
This public preview feature is designed to help customers view and monitor their resources according to their physical locations. Site manager allows customers to create Arc sites to represent their on-premises environments and have a centralised view for monitoring the infrastructure on the edge.
Currently, Azure Arc Site manager supports Azure Stack HCI, Azure Arc-enabled servers, Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes and Azure IoT Operations Assets. Coming soon is support for more resou ..read more

Another book that I was recently sent for review by the PackT people was Web API Development with ASP.NET Core 8: Learn techniques, patterns, and tools for building high-performance, robust, and scalable web APIs.
Author
The author is Xiaodi Yan, who is a fellow longer-term Microsoft MVP and an experienced software developer, focussing on .NET, AI, DevOps and all things cloud-related. You’ll also find him on LinkedIn Learning as an instructor.
During the Covid lockdowns, I started to get involved in attending the New Zealand Chinese IT user group meetings that were being held online. I thought ..read more

At KubeCon Europe 2024, we showed how Azure and Kubernetes can help you build and deploy intelligent applications. Even if you couldn’t visit us at the Microsoft booth or attend the conference sessions, you can read about all the exciting ways we’re making Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) the best destination for all things cloud-native—including the latest AI and machine learning (ML) applications. With enhancements to security, performance, networking, observability, and more, AKS provides even more platform-as-a-service benefits on top of a smoother onboarding experience for a great end-to-en ..read more

NVR (Network Video Recording) and false positives. Two words if you have been in this game long enough you will be familiar with. Tree’s that move, a spider all create noise to the point you tune out.
I never have relied on the smarts of my Geovision camera’s but have used SightHound, Synology Surveillance Station and Blue Iris.
With either application the overall end-user experience has increased and with tuning, they all can be pretty good.
