In the realm of leatherworking, achieving a flawless saddle stitch is crucially important. The quality of your stitching can make or break the overall aesthetic of your leather creations. However, many beginners struggle to attain the desired level of precision in their stitches. Have you ever found yourself frustrated with clogged sandpaper? You’re not alone. It’s a common issue that can slow down your projects and make them less effective. But fear not! I’ve got a game-changing solution for you: cleaning sandpaper with gum sole.
I use a ton of grits of sandpaper for my projects. Especially if I’m trying to get a glass edge.
Cleaning Sandpaper with Gum Sole??
You might be wondering, “How on earth can gum sole clean sandpaper?” Well, it’s actually quite simple. The sticky nature of gum sole makes it the perfect tool for removing debris ..read more

There are a ton of cool leather working tools out there but the majority of them are simply variations on existing tools. The Leather Tattoo Machine by 21Grams is in a class of its own. Yes, it tools leather like you can with stamps and a mallet, but it does so in a way that is more beginner friendly, easier on those who have physical issues that would prevent them from doing traditional leather tooling, allows for a bit more creative freedom (ie allows you to draw and write completely freehand), and is just a ton of fun.

Hey there fellow leather crafters! I recently tried out some new leather craft tools that have made a huge difference in my projects. These tools don’t really do anything new… They just make the process as a whole easier. As always, I made a video showcasing these amazing new tools, but for those of you who prefer to read, here’s a quick rundown:
The New Leather Craft Tools
Copper San Mai Steel Skiving Knife by Ibex Ironworks I was blown away by the quality of this skiving knife. The blade is razor-sharp and the copper/carbon fiber handle has a great weight and feel to it. It’s a ..read more

This leather notebook wallet is an easy leather craft project, but looks super slick. This stylish accessory is perfect for streamlining your everyday carry, and can be made easily with our free pattern and simple step-by-step guide.
What You Need:
Leather: For this project, we recommend using leather that is 3-4 oz in thickness. You can choose any color or texture that you like, but keep in mind that softer leathers may not hold their shape as well as firmer ones. I’d recommend this Glass Jack leather from OA Leather Supply (this video’s sponsor)

This leather bifold wallet was the first wallet design I ever created. I had made another similar wallet which inspired this one, but it just wasn’t quite right. The spacing seemed off and it had a weird unnecessary piece which I didn’t love. I figured it would be easy to make my own template and have the exact wallet I was looking for -it wasn’t.
Although pattern-making has a fairly steep learning curve and is an art in itself, I managed to figure out how to do it enough to spit out a few templates here and there (something I plan on doing more of in the new year). If you haven’t taken a l ..read more

You’ve probably seen that I’m buddies with another YouTuber, Ira Pelletier, on the YouTube channel. We became friends when we just sort of bumped into one another on the platform, making similar leather craft content and living nearby one another. He’s had this series going on his channel that I’ve always liked, called 5 Tool Tuesday. In this series, he covers mainly leather craft tools and gives great advice on how to make them for yourself, how to source leather craft tools that you don’t need to buy from a leather work shop, and even has one episode on tools for your mind that will make y ..read more

My Pursuit of Glass Edges in Leather Craft
When I started leather craft, I began to learn and study everything I could about the craft in an effort to get good quickly. Early on, I focused hard on saddle stitching. I would punch holes in leather scraps and stitch them together when I wasn’t actually trying to make something. As I became proficient at stitching, I started to focus on leather edges. This is around the time I came across “glass edges”.
I’m not entirely sure whose video I was watching the first time I saw a glass edge, but I do remember being mesmerized. How the ..read more

When I was first getting into leather craft, I never considered that product photography would be such an important part of it. Learning how to take product photos for Instagram and all your social media accounts as well as on your website is vital to selling your products online. If you aren’t putting much effort into your photography, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
What Camera Should I Use?
When talking about photography with people, I often get asked about which camera is best for taking product pictures. Honestly, cell phone cameras have come a long way. If you d ..read more

I started started leather working in July of 2020. I got into it by following a bunch of leather workers on Instagram and engaging with the community there. Around the same time, Aaron Pete had started the Bigger Than Me Podcast. We started chatting as we both are located in the same city and we’re trying to engage other local businesses.
We’ve been chatting ever since and have frequently discussed YouTube, podcasts, and content creation in general.
Despite being friends online and living near each other, we had never met in person until now. Aaron reached out to me and asked me t ..read more
