Alpine has started the 2024 season as the slowest team in Formula 1. To make matters worse, improvements are not expected in the near future. Speaking to the media in Australia, Pierre Gasly established the timeline set at Enstone for their F1 recovery. The Australian GP was perhaps Alpine’s most encouraging race of the year so far. Considering they finished in P13 and P16, this fact provides a glimpse into the French outfit’s disastrous start to the year. Ferrari claimed its first 1-2 finish in two years in Melbourne, asserting itself as a legitimate frontrunner in Formula 1. However, the Italian outfit’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, insists that complacency is not an option. Consistent with this declaration, Ferrari is preparing several upgrades to continue improving the SF-24. There were plenty of pessimistic assessments of Ferrari’s 2024 car in pre-season. Analysts almost universally described the SF-24 as an underwhelming package due to its lack of dramatic external features. For many, the engineers in Maranello had failed to introduce th ..read more

A series of strong results to start 2024 have put Haas in a very strong position, reflected both in the standings and by public opinion. Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen both secured points early in this year’s campaign. The question for Ayao Komatsu’s squad is whether their limited resources will cost them later in the season. On paper, mid-season development in F1 is harder than ever. The budget cap greatly limits the resources teams can invest in introducing updates to their car. As evidenced last season by Ferrari and Mercedes, mistakes in winter development are very hard to recover fr ..read more

Sauber was again exposed for operational inefficiency in Australia, costing the Swiss outfit and its drivers valuable points. With the Swiss outfit and its drivers desperate for a top-10 result, last weekend in Melbourne was a tough pill to swallow. F1 is often described as the pinnacle of motorsport, where the best engineers and driving talents are put to the test. However, even in Formula 1, teams can fall victim to certain pitfalls and common narratives. Red Bull, for example, made the mistake of putting too much stock into Nyck de Vries’ P9 finish at the 2022 Italian GP. Less than a year ..read more

Williams believe points were attainable for Alex Albon in Australia with more running in free practice. According to the team’s head of performance, 8th place could have been a realistic target with a clean weekend. Few teams will recall a more difficult weekend than the one Williams experienced at the Australian GP. The Grove-based team’s nightmare began in Free Practice 1 with a crash from Alex Albon.
