I arrived in Australia at the very beginning of June and spent three weeks travelling with my good friend, flat-mate and training buddy; Masa Strakl. During May, we even spent a few days before hand at home in the UK and Masa’s home in Slovenia where in Slovenia we visited caves and castles and in the UK, London and Cambridge. Half cave, half castle – Predjama Castle, Slovenia This is Postojnska Cave, it is over 24km long and home to the “Baby Dragon” Blejski Castle, Slovenia View of Ljubljana We found some Norwegian telemark friends in London There was just one UK based castle we visited; Co ..read more

A lot has happened since my previous blog, too much to report every detail… The World Cup season is now complete and I am proud to say I have a new world ranking of 2nd place. All British athletes competing recorded personal best results this season. As a team we finished 5th in the Nation’s Cup, behind France, Switzerland, Norway and Germany. If you had asked me how I was feeling after the World Cup races in Norway, I doubt I would have believed such an end to the season could be possible… (L to R) Ben Emsley, Colin Dixon, Jasmin Taylor, Sissi Compton, Magnus McIntosh – Photo credits and tha ..read more

It was slightly more complicated getting into Europe for this season. Now with Brexit regulations, you need a VISA and/or resident permit which allows more than 90 days within a 180 day period; extra difficulties alongside COVID restrictions. Speaking of which, I write this from my 7th day of isolation with COVID-19 but luckily my symptoms haven’t been severe. Once I made it to Europe, our training camps started like (almost) normal in Hintertux. We were joined by Slovenian athlete, Masa Strakl, who was also my flat-mate before injuring her knee; the worst part of sport. I am missing her and w ..read more

The World Cup Finals were held in Thyon, Switzerland. The GB Telemark Ski Team included Alec and Colin Dixon, Timote (Tim) Gough and I for this event. Our injured team-mate, Sissi Compton, turned up to show her support and Irish athlete, Max Screawn, joined us throughout the duration of these races. The racing kicked off with a grueling Classic where I finished in 4th, Alec in 21st, Colin in 20th, Tim in 19th and Max unfortunately did not finish (DNF). We began training on the slopes back in October with our first camp in Hintertux, Austria. This season, Slovenian athlete; Masa Strakl, has been a regular training buddy of mine, along with the French Telemark Ski Team who have always been close by. On the glacier this pre-season! I spent time with the Swiss Telemark Ski Team, training up on the Saas Fee glacier. The conditions were often ideal and I learnt a lot throughout my stay – thank you to the Swiss for having me.   The new Meidjo 3.0, thank you to The M Equipment for the personal “JAZ” touch! The remaining races of the FIS Telemark World Cup season have been cancelled due to the corona-virus (COVID-19). The ski resorts and pretty much everything else, have shut down entirely to reduce the spread of this outbreak. That gives time to conclude another year of work, to reflect and look ahead to the next steps. In training for the World Cup season, it has been a strange winter to say the least! Photo credits to Sebastien Mansart A few seasons ago an athlete-movement took place, all athletes met to discuss the viewpoint they have, and what they foresee in the future of our sport.
