CHAPTER TWO This is a long one, I hope you enjoy reading it. Jane Cather, my mother, has always inspired and fueled my own creativity. I am not sure where her creativity comes from, but it is truly endless. She is a painter, doll maker, metalsmith, and has always focused on the creativity expressed in the home.  Everything must have balance, the right volumetric, and, most importantly the flow of energy has to be right. She started her artist career with creating folk art cloth dolls. I remember helping her stuff the body parts of the dolls with cotton when I was younger. Each dress was ..read more

Chapter One "Normally I don't like sharing things about me. I'm okay with sharing my jewelry creations, but I tend to shrink back when it comes to talking or sharing things about me. I know it is important that my customers know that there is a real person running my small business, but I get timid when it is time to share. So, I thought to make it a little easier, I would start with my family history. When I think about my family, I am always amazed at how we're all creative in one way or another. Does the creativity pass down from generation to generation? Do you become creative just by watc ..read more

I am sure you know by now I am an avid beach stone collector. I enjoy the the beaches mostly during the off season months, less people for sure. Cape Cod, Massachusetts, has always been known for its picturesque landscapes and charming coastal towns but also for the unique beach stones that adorn its shores. These stones are beautifully weathered and smoothed by the endless flow of the Atlantic Ocean. But, did you know that when you find a stone from any of the Cape Cod beaches you are holding a piece of geological history in you hand? Cape Cod's geological history goes back as far as the last ..read more

Tuesday's Tip By LjBjewelry Soldering For those who follow my art work or my social networks know that I am a self taught metalsmith. I am asked many times what techniques I use or how I create certain pieces. Not to long ago I started creating tutorials but at first I was very intimidated.  Even with a few tutorials under my belt I am still a little intimidated and definitely camera shy. Being self taught and not having a professional instruction in the immense world of silversmithing, I didn't think anyone would take me seriously. However one thing I have learned after many trial and er ..read more

The jasper gemstone has a special spot in my heart. When I first started my jewelry making path many moons ago, Ocean Jasper was the first stone I wanted to bezel set in a ring. I came across this beautiful wonder on Etsy for the first time and knew I wanted to create many jewelry designs with it.  A little history....... Evidence of archeological discoveries shows the jasper stone was a treasured gem, as far back as 1800 BC. It was mostly used for tools, or vases, amulets and can be found is some beautiful Egyptian jewelry in the museums.  How could it not be treasure ..read more

If you have been following us for a while you know that both my son, Andy Tuse (House of Stones and Metal) and I love incorporating beach stones in our jewelry designs. Cape Cod has an abundance of stones and in particular white quartz. You can find them so easily because quartz are the ones most able to withstand weathering and erosion from the waves. It is hard to find the perfect shaped stone for a jewelry design that has been floating around in our heads. We decided to get a small flat lap machine to create free form stone shapes for our designs. As you can see we have already been playin ..read more

The New Year always brings a desire to meet new goals or reach for new dreams. I have been creating art jewelry for about 9 years now. For this years goal, I felt it was time to create a new website and as always new exciting jewelry designs. Even though some of you may be familiar with my work, I thought I would take a moment with my first blog post to introduce myself. My metalsmith path was created by a life long passion for jewelry and a need to find something of my own. I am self taught and began experimenting with various metalsmith techniques in 2009. In December 2011 I opened my f ..read more
