Slitherine appears to be unstoppable. This once small wargame publisher is slowly becoming the face of strategy and wargames, and Headquarters: World War 2 is just the latest of titles in their ever-growing catalogue.
Often described as World War 2 meets XCOM (while not false, it thinks that honour belongs to Classified France ’44) I think the game is more closely related to one of the Best World War 2 Games of All Time, Battle Academy.
Headquarters: World War 2 manages to stand on its own two feet as a very competent, if conservative and traditional wargame, and for ..read more

The company behind some of the best real-time-strategy games, like Company of Heroes, Age of Empires IV, and Dawn of War, was sold by SEGA. Relic Entertainment has recently confirmed that with the help of an external, undisclosed investor, the studio is going independent. Relic’s shares were transferred to a holding company called Emona Capital.
Relic Entertainment assured Company of Heroes 3 players that they’ll continue to support the game, and are “looking forward to the 1.6 Update”, set to come out in April.
This, however, isn’t the only setback Relic Entertainment has faced recently. In M ..read more

The amazing team at Wargame Design Studio, creators of some of the best World War 2 games of all time continue to make Jonh Tiller proud with their fantastic work on every series they inherited. Last Friday they just launched Spring Awakening ’45, the latest entry to the Panzer Campaign series.
Spring Awakening ’45 is shaped by the mind of César “Indragnir” Moreno, a prolific modder of the Wargamer Design Studio Panzer Campaign series: “When I started designing mods (all those years ago), I couldn’t even think that I would ever create a full game. It’s been a lon ..read more

Hello, dear website visitor. This is the first (of hopefully many) article written by an avid reader of Strategy and Wargaming. Tom, is his name, and his article delves into the possibilities of using Artificial Intelligence to better replicate famous generals’ tactics and behaviours. Thanks a lot, Tom!
With so much being said about AI and how it will change our lives (or destroy us!) one area that we, as wargaming enthusiasts, are likely to benefit from is playing against the computer. This isn’t because the AI will be able to issue orders faster, be ultra-efficient with resources or come up ..read more

Paradox has his hand in nearly every strategy subgenre. Want to lead your nation? Here are Hearts of Iron 4, Victoria 3 and Crusader Kings 3 for you. Turn-based tactics? Well, The Lamplighters League came out last year. Tycoon and Management? Boot up Cities: Skylines 2 or Prison Architect.
After the successful launch of Age of Wonders 4, a game that was critically acclaimed by pretty much everyone who enjoyed 4X titles, Paradox has decided it was time to launch Millennia, a direct competitor to the much-beloved Civilization series.&n ..read more

Starship Troopers: Terran Command, one of the best RTS ever made keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Slitherine has announced the Urban Onslaught expansion, a DLC that sees the conflict between mankind and the arachnids move away from the barren wastelands to the city streets.

Slitherine’s newest wargame Headquarters: World War 2 is a visual delight, and it’s shaping up nicely to be the new entryway for newcomers to the genre. Despite being competent, easy to get into wargame, I have to be honest, as I don’t consider myself to be entirely convinced by Headquarters: World War 2 just yet, so take my words here with a grain of salt. What I’m currently playing is a slimmed-down version of the final product, and even if the game is releasing just a couple of weeks from now, on April 11th, things can always change in the final build.
First things first: The gam ..read more

Another season has arrived, and so do the Steam Sales. If you’re looking for the best deals around in this Steam Spring Sale 2024, you’ve come to the right place. Sit down, browse the list, and pick yourself some nice games to keep you occupied this Spring.
As with everything around here, this list is going to be mainly composed of strategy game deals. Don’t expect to find me recommending Helldivers 2, Palworld or Rainbow Six Siege here (even though those are some of the best games you can play right now). This time, I’m changing the format a bit, and trimming down my recommendations quite a l ..read more
