On the island of Ireland there are currently 39 operational distilleries which is incredible when you look back to 10 years ago, when there were only four Irish whiskey distilleries total. It has been a while! We have been busy getting our new Whiskey Island website alive and kicking. Earlier this year, we launched a new competition. We invite all guests who have taken a tour, to leave a review on TripAdvisor, or any reviews platform for that matter, after they have been on tour. Once they leave their review, they are automatically entered into a closed competition and should their name be pulled out of the hat at the end of each quarter, they will have a bottle of our favourite Irish whiskey sent to their house, wherever in the world they may be! Last month, the prize was awa ..read more

Lambay Island may be barely three miles off the east coast of Ireland, but it retains an air of inaccessible mystery. When WB Yeats visited the island in the 1880’s, he compared his experience to landing on a remote South Seas island for the first time. Now, Lambay is offering private groups a chance to experience a Lambay Whiskey VIP tour. Groups (min 2 and max 12 persons) can now visit this private island from April – October as part of a new cultural and heritage whiskey tour in exclusive partnership with Lambay Irish Whiskey Company (LIWC) and all booking enquiries are managed by the speci ..read more

Whiskey Island Blog

I’ve never asked a Scotsman this question, but did you know the Irish invented whiskey? As far as earliest records go, Irish missionary monks discovered the skill of distillation on their travels. They put these new skills to the test when they got back to the Emerald Isle and gave us Irish Whiskey which we still thank them for when we pray to them. Irish whiskey was very famous throughout the world for a long time, enjoying much success around the globe in the 16,17,18 and 19 centuries. Our fortunes changed in the 1900s though; WW1, WW2 and prohibition in the US among other factors, were cat ..read more

Travel writer Amrita Das was a recent guest on our Dublin Whiskey Story tour. She wrote a piece for Forbes Magazine India and the tour features in her article. Here is the article below… Barrelling Back – Irish whiskey, once globally popular and dominant, is experiencing a resurgence within and outside its borders. A flimsy wooden plank hangs low in the oaky-smelling shebeen (old Irish illegal bar). I push myself through groups of drunken revellers to spot the copper pot still. Below the dim yellow light, I see the barman carelessly pour the uisce beatha (Gaelic for ‘water of life’, as whiskey ..read more
