Reproductive issues...

As many of you know I seem to be able to stop the reproduction in female veiled chameleons through diet accompanied by slightly lower basking temperatures. For many years I have been trying to figure put why/how this works and why it is that most of the cases of follicular stasis and eggbinding in the veiled females seems to involve obesity/overfeeding and MBD. In a study done a few years ago studying the hormones in unmated female veileds they did not come to any solution but did learn a... Read more ..read more

Greetings everyone! Aside from my intro yesterday, this is my first public post on here in over 15 years! Great to be back! I am getting all my supplies together for my future new panther and I am having a dilemma I’d like some advice on. My coming enclosure will be 2x4x4. I am trying to decide whether to get a stand with two shelves or a full rack which the enclosure will sit inside of. There are pluses and minuses to each option in my opinion, but I just cannot convince myself of either... Read more ..read more

Hello guys. Has been few days now that my veiled cham shows lack of appetitte. And her colours are a bit doul.... I was wondering. If she is ready for lay eggs, i already put a big countainer on the bottom of the cage so she can go there. Or she is showing signs of sheding? I have her for about 3 weeks. And has been some busy week for her. We brought her on a smalll set up, change for a nice big enclousure after a week... so she is still adapting... but she always eat pretty well. But... Hi! I have a 4 year old male panther chameleon who has had health issues since I got him. He first had an issue with his eye that has resolved but recently he has had lots of feeding issues and has been loosing a lot of weight. After 2 vet visits of finding nothing wrong I asked them if there were any tests they could run to look inside. They did an xray, ultrasound and bloodwork and found that he has a lot of gas inside of his body. They said this happens from a hole in the gastric system... Read more ..read more

How do chams know what constitutes acceptable prey in the territories new for them? Chameleons evolved approx. 100 millions of years ago in eastern Africa. During their long evolution, they naturally spread to neighboring territories and conquered parts of Southern and central Europe, east over Asia to India and China and to Madagascar. Due to climatic changes, they lost parts if the northern territories later on. They are the true old-world lizard family. Thanks to the explosive... Read more ..read more

So. Chester is still sick. Hes half way done his 10 doses of shots. Around 2 weeks ago he stopped eating. He refused his main food crickets. However any time he sees a treat bug he instantly still wants to eat it. Im unsure if he's just lost his appetite so much due to the medicine that he just doesnt want to eat crickets, or if hes on a food strike. When i noticed he stopped eating his crickets, i also stopped giving the treat bugs. I was hoping he was just on a food strike and... Read more ..read more
