Kiddos are ~4 and 6 years old. I leave the office early one day and decide to stop by famous and kiddos’ favorite Amphora Bakery. I get two gingerbread man cookies that honestly look delicious!! I don’t have a picture, unfortunately, but they looked kind of like this: I get home pretty excited and give the kiddos their cookies. They are super happy jumping up and down! They run to the kitchen, grab some plates and sit on the kitchen table. So far so good!!! Little guy gets at it right away, no second thoughts! Big brother is hesitant. He finds the gingerbread man too cute to eat!! He decid ..read more

What is the difference between “from traffic-engineering” and “from family traffic-engineering” in a routing policy?

I was asked early this week what the difference between configuring a routing policy matching on “traffic-engineering” and configuring one matching on “family traffic-engineering” is. I found this to be a very good question, so I decided to write a quick note about it. I agree that seeing these two options for the first time can be puzzling, but the answer is quite simple. However, you know me! I have to give you some context before I go into the specific pieces of information (maybe it is just that I like to talk…); so here it goes: To get started let’s talk about MP-BGP (Multiprotocol BGP ..read more

Hello!!! It’s been a long time! Life has been crazy in the last 2 years , and I know that is an understatement, and that every single one of you would agree 100% I for instance changed jobs, caught Covid and completely freaked out, had a monoclonal treatment (to avoid complications due to MS) and recovered, got vaccinated, fell down the stairs and hurt my tail bone, have become pretty sedentary, gained weight, had to stop doing TKD…. I know we all have our stories, and I should admit, mine has not been bad in comparison with so many, but I cannot pretend this has not affected my mood, discip ..read more

Commit check immediately followed by commit?

I am on mission to prevent people from getting into the habit of making configuration changes in Junos and, when the time comes to activating them, doing a commit check, immediately followed by a commit, if they don’t get any errors. Absolutely, nothing wrong with it! Just that I feel it is completely unnecessary, and a waste of time.   Let’s take a look at this very simple scenario: We have a virtual-router named VR1, with a single interface (fe-0/0/0.0), which currently has no configuration.  We configure an IP address under the interface, and immediately activate the new configur ..read more
