It’s been 3 months but let’s start at the end — or at least the most recent. The Eclipse! Back in October, we booked a VRBO on Lake Travis, just west of Austin in the zone of totality. It was ridiculously expensive, but we missed the total eclipse in 2017 and I was NOT going to miss this one. The 100 day project kicked off back in February, a few days before I left for QuiltCon, and day 50 — halfway! — is this Sunday. This year I decided to lean into my recent obsession with crochet. I didn’t have a detailed plan of attack, but I’ve been using Block by Block Crochet by Leonie Morgan as my guide. I really like all of the modern quilt-ish crochet blocks featured in the book, and it’s been a good way to build my crochet skills. Last month, my Cosmic Shores quilt was on display at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo — a huge annual event around here that runs for 3 weeks and draws over a million visitors. Shortly before the show opened, I got the exciting news that it won two ribbons! I received a blue ribbon from the rodeo and, much to my surprise, a NACQJ Award of Merit from judge De Leclair. I first learned about this ribbon when one was awarded at QuiltCon 2023 — it is a way for certified quilt judges to “acknowledge outstanding efforts.” I was thrilled to receive one, and particularly for this quilt ..read more
