In 1987, Christian Bale appeared in the role of Jum-Jum in the children’s fantasy movie, Mio in the Land of Faraway. The same year, the young actor took on the part of Jim in the Steven Spielberg-directed film, Empire of the Sun.
From here, Bale continued to appear in movies, building up an impressive body of work which included the Disney musical Newsies, the classic drama Little Women, and the horror-thriller American Psycho. He also played the role of Batman in three Christopher Nolan-directed pictures, including Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

In 2022, DC Comics published a series of Batman comic books centred specifically around iconic villains. The series – which ran under the banner title ‘One Bad Day‘ – was designed to tell a collection of stand-alone tales, showcasing villains from Batman’s rogues’ gallery.
Written and illustrated by a group of top talent (Tom King, G. Willow Wilson, etc), each comic book ran 64 pages in length and was presented in a prestige format. DC viewed this as a special collection of stories, which could be read by long-term fans or newcomers alike, and offered readers the opportunity to connect with th ..read more

When Batman: The Animated Series debuted on television screens back in 1992, one thing was pretty clear: Batman mostly worked alone. Other than a few infrequent appearances from crime-fighting partner, Robin, the Dark Knight was largely a solo player.
The reason Robin only appeared sporadically to begin with was because the series wanted to showcase Batman as Gotham City’s lone saviour, rather than have Batman as one half of a Dynamic Duo. In previous incarnations of the Batman mythology (the film serials, the 1966 TV show, cartoons, etc), Batman was usually paired with Robin, but fo ..read more

In 1983, Joaquin Phoenix appeared in the television movie, Six Pack. Appearing under the name Leaf Phoenix, Six Pack provided the actor with his first movie role, but certainly not his last.
Following small appearances in films during the 1980s, including a memorable part as Garry in Parenthood, where he acted alongside Dianne Wiest, Martha Plimpton, Keanu Reeves, and Steve Martin, Phoenix’s star continued to rise. Moving into the 1990s, the actor starred in films such as To Die For and 8MM, before taking on the unforgettable role of Commodus in 2000’s Gladiator.

The comic proved to be a hit with readers and ran for 36 issues, two annuals and a holiday special. It was also accompanied by Batman: Mask of the Phantasm – The Official Comic Adaptation, which adapted the 1993 animated movie of the same name into comic book form.

When Batman: The Animated Series went into production at the beginning of the 1990s, Warner Bros. hired multiple animation studios to animate the show. Some of these studios handled a significant number of episodes, while others animated only a few.
But whether the studios animated two episodes or twenty-two episodes, the important thing was to remain consistent. Everyone involved in the writing and creation of Batman: The Animated Series wanted the show to look good at all times, to ensure it shined, and this meant having the correct animation studios on board.
However, while t ..read more

Batman: The Animated is often cited as one of the best incarnations of the Batman mythology. The series features great animation, superb character designs, and compelling writing, and continually tops polls and opinion pieces about the greatest versions of Batman ever made.
Across the series’ 109-episode run, Batman: The Animated Series served up some truly brilliant episodes and some truly memorable moments. It also introduced many characters that were completely new to the world of Batman, and who didn’t exist outside of the show.
Some of these characters appeared as a one-off ..read more
