Recently when describing certain issues I had a stranger told me that neurodivergence is no excuse to not improve social skills. Unfortunately I'm not confident and I have a gullible streak. For example: someone calls me lazy and I believe them, even if I'm exhausted. It is a fact that to avoid misunderstandings (some of which can go spectacularly badly) I avoid talking to strangers and apparently that's an excuse to not get better at reading people. But this strategy came about after... Read more ..read more

I'm feeling hyper and really happy for the last 3 days. I have mood swings that go from "euphoria to low mood" all in a matter of days. This is NOT bipolar. Psychiatrist said I have emotional dysregulation and (my mood swings are way too quick for it to be bipolar) anyway. I go from hyper for 4 days to low mood for 4 days, it's a continuous cycle. Medication has NOT helped either. I'm on Risperidone for my autism meltdowns and anger. Does anyone else have Emotional dysregulation with their... Read more ..read more

I have been feeling very down lately. Feeling like everything that hasn't gone right in my life is my fault. In theory it can't all be because of me but I can't be sure. A lot of self-resentment over never quite learning not to panic and to handle social situations better. Knowing my diagnosis has an impact but also not wanting to use it as an excuse. Example: Work is stressful. I tried to get jobs, no-one was willing to provide the help I needed to settle in. In the end I got... Read more ..read more

I repeat words and phrases in my head from tv shows or people. Like for example my psychiatrist says the word "right" alot in conversations and I Will repeat the word right in my head or a song I will repeat the word "fast car" from song lyrics because it's self soothing and calms me down when I get stressed. I repeat them out loud only when I'm alone. I have for a LONG TIME MISTAKEN these for Hearing voices which can be common for people with autism to mistake "mental scripting or... My psychiatrist thinks I'm on the spectrum. He said to my mum "I think she's on the autistic spectrum". He came to a light bulb moment in his head. He previously misdiagnosed me with schizophrenia. He does also think iv got emotional dysregulation and an overactive imagination because do have imaginary friends. I don't know how he found out that I'm on the spectrum. I do also have audible thoughts/pseudohallucinations ..read more

On the verge of diagnosis

The past few months have been so confusing. Close relatives and teachers have suspected I was on the spectrum since early childhood, but never enough to actually investigate it. I myself always felt alienated from my peers, and growing up I understood more of it, and eventually ended up researching actual ASD symptoms. I know that alone doesn't mean much, and I ended up stopping at that. That's something that should be obvious from an early age, I thought back then, and I just blamed other... Read more ..read more

I am 56 and was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 54. I am also diagnosed with Borderline personality disorder. My old psychiatrist said I had CPTSD but he said it won't go on my notes as it was not officially a diagnosis back then. My new psychiatrist says I have not go it. I am lucky enough to know a qualified psychotherapist who tries to give me an hour of her time for free, each wee, but in the school holidays she is unable to, due to her commitments. She has lots of experience of autism... Read more ..read more
