Hi all, not been on for a long while, so here's my update, I saw my nuclear Dr today and he said my cancer is not really responding to usual amount of radioiodine, and mentioned another treatment of radioiodine at a very high dose but comes with risks of not working and dying as a result. But hey I haven't got much other options other than small doses but not really doing much and eventually snuffing it or go and be a pioneer and give it a go. So folks I am gonna try, I have my faith with my Dr and trust him when he says he will be cautious, I will have withdraw my thyroxine for 7 wks, at the ..read more

Oh yes I totally agree it feels like at first it's just a mad whirlwind up to the op, then after you're left trying to process it all, slot back into life and figure out what's next. As your op was in Feb maybe they're waiting for a couple months to see what the other half of your thyroid does? Just a guess. Getting the thyroxin right seems a bit of a dark art so if your levels are low it could be adding to making you feel rubbish. I know it was with me. But I'm sorry to hear you're being tested for Crohn's too. No wonder you don't feel your best! Let me know how you get on ..read more

This is the thing. The GP said I should have had a function test already but I have never had a letter or appointment booked and she questioned how soon they did the ultrasound after the operation. It’s all very much felt like I’ve been left in the dark during the whole episode. Or maybe that how it felt, it was a bit of a whirlwind. I’m on no medication at the moment so I would hazard a guess that’s why I’m under the weather or it could be other issues as I’m being checked for Crohns. Hopefully get some answers in the next few weeks ..read more

Hi. They felt something there so it’s not my mind playing tricks on me lol. I’m going to have an urgent ultrasound and have bloods taken for thyroid function test. She says it could be still swelling from the operation but going to have a look anyway. Having the test because of feeling lousy all the time. Hiws things with you ..read more

Hi Andy T, sorry you find yourself here but welcome. Don't feel alone, there's many members who have been where you are and will try and answer any questions you may have. I found it invaluable to get honest help from people who have actually been through similar. Only people who have had that cancer diagnosis, really know how it feels. You can always ring the Macmillan helpline too just to talk to someone. They also provide 6 free counselling sessions if you feel that would help. I was never the person who would even consider that before but I got to the point where I used them as it can be v ..read more

Hi Andy, I am really sorry to hear what you are going through. I was diagnosed with PTC almost 2 years ago and I did a total removal with some lymph nodes. As you say, all went so quickly and indeed one of the toughest things I experienced was to break the bad news to my family - I totally understand you. I felt too that with the bad news needs to come some support but it felt so impossible to do this as I was so lost and sad; so the usual ‘but don’t worry’ was not an option. What I did was to let them know the news little by little, so I always knew something more than they did and I was leav ..read more
