Jacy Sheldon has had a year. One hell of a year, as a matter of fact.
She was a catalyst for the THE Ohio State women’s basketball team, who earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament before being bounced by No. 7 Duke. She then shortly after wrapped up her collegiate career with being the No. 5 pick in the WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings.
From there, it was a short two-week turnaround for opening night, taking the court against players she watched and admired while growing up and in college.
Yeah, it’s been a hell of a year, indeed.

Growth isn’t linear. We know this to be true in all walks of life. Yet, when a rookie doesn’t dominate their sport right away, the same thought isn’t applied.
For every Aliyah Boston who dominates out of the gate, there’s a Maddy Siegrist who has a fine rookie year but takes a step forward in Year 2.
We are seeing that this year with the rookie crop, too, as Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are setting records, while Aaliyah Edwards is now showing out in a major way for the Mystics and Jacy Sheldon is starting to find her game with more consistent minutes in Dallas.
Despite the solid rookie seaso ..read more

The Commissioner’s Cup has come and gone, and the Minnesota Lynx found themselves back on top after a victory over the reigning Cup champion New York Liberty.
Surely, they landed atop the Winsidr staff’s power rankings this round? And yet…
The Lynx, while finishing off that impressive victory, did not end up at number one in voting amongst our staff. We saw a ton of movement at the top, while the bottom rung of teams mostly stayed put with a few movers.
We’re right around the corner from the Olympic break, and with another week of games in the books, we’re back with another ranking ..read more

“To me, she’s the sixth woman of the year already.”
A pretty bold statement not even a month into the season but first-year Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon had seen enough. The Sky had just beaten the Washington Mystics 79-71 in front of a sellout crowd at Capital One Arena in D.C. and despite it being a homecoming for teammate and Maryland native Angel Reese, Chennedy Carter had stolen the show by scoring 25 points off the bench. It was a season-high for Carter and the most points scored off the bench in the WNBA since another current Sky player, Marina Mabrey scored 28 for t ..read more

On an 11-game losing streak, the Dallas Wings have been flying through turbulence since the first two weeks of competition. From injuries to a lack of cohesion, many factors have contributed to why the Wings are currently ranked last in the league (3-13 record). While losing a superstar like Satou Sabally to injury during the offseason is tough, the Dallas franchise has the assets in tow to compete in the middle of the pack. This year’s team isn’t as experienced and battle tested together like the 2021 and 2022 rosters. However, the current roster construction includes a mix of veterans and ex ..read more

The Minnesota Lynx are on top once again. This time, the trophy is shaped a bit differently—accentuated by a crown, but it still symbolizes yet another chip for the mighty Midwestern squad who managed to topple the reigning Commissioner’s Cup champion New York Liberty by a final score of 94-89.
This dub was headlined by defense, with the Lynx forcing a whopping 21 turnovers on the Liberty thanks to some sensational on-ball pressure and mounting deflections on New York’s passes into the post. Three-point shooting was also, once again, the tale of the win for Minnesota. It was not the usua ..read more

Aerial Powers is really like that.
No, really. Just ask her.
Because when looking at what she brings to a team and a city, in order to do justice to all her entire impact, it would take hours.
Bringing the energy? She’s like that.
Standing up for her teammates? She’s like that.
Adding a spark off the bench? She’s like that.
Advocating for her mom in a way that is bigger than basketball?
Yeah, she’s definitely like that.
See, Powers’ current chapter of her story has her in Atlanta, Georgia, but becoming “like that” starts with growing up in Detroit, Michigan.
In the Beginning
