For a team that had no business even being in the playoffs, the 12-20 8th seed New York Liberty showed up for their first postseason matchup since 2017. After trading leads all game, the Liberty were up 79-77 against the Phoenix Mercury with 1:29 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The possibility of a Liberty upset over the much better Mercury seemed to be becoming real.
