This is the wreath I made last year (2020). I don’t make my wreath until the first week of December, as I use mostly fresh greenery, and want to keep it looking good all the way through to the New Year. I also use moss on the base to hold water for the same reason. I try where possible to use greenery from the garden mixed with dried elements that I already have such as the dried limes and pheasant feathers. Grapevine base covered with moss I always use a large grapevine wreath base, available from Hobbycraft. When I’m using fresh greenery I cover the base with moss, secured by winding florist ..read more

This wreath is perfect for Autumn, reflecting the colours of the changing leaves and pumpkins of October and also the fiery hues of bonfire night. You will need a grapevine wreath base, they are reusable and cheap. A glue gun, for attaching the pine cones and berries, both available at Hobbycraft. A selection of leaves, berries and pine cones, I explain what I have used below, and some secateurs to cut up the foliage. I made the wreath in the greenhouse, it can get messy! Stage one is to completely cover the wreath base with leaves. I used 10 stems of dyed red oak leaves, pushing small bunches ..read more

This is the wreath I made last March. It’s so simple and effective, using natural elements and the classic soft yellow and green colours of spring. You will need: A classic grapevine wreath base, florist wire and a glue gun – they are all available at Hobbycraft. Moss to cover the wreath base. I can easily collect enough from my lawn at this time of year, but you can also order it from your local florist. Yellow Statice flowers and Gypsophila, again these can be ordered from your florist. Soft bendable twigs. I find these around the garden from shrubs not yet in leaf. Or you can order a bunch ..read more

At the end of February I am desperate to get a spring wreath on the front door. I’ve been drying gypsophila, berries and grasses in preparation. I’ve also dyed some grasses pink ( using floral spray dye) as it’s difficult to find bright pinks that will last at this time of year. Getting prepared What you will need Wreath base, I’ve used a rattan one from Hobbycraft Florist wire Gypsophila, this takes about 2 weeks to dry Dried berries Pieces of pampas grass Pine cones or seed cases Glue gun Bunch together the gypsophila and place onto the wreath base, winding the wire around to secure. Once the roses have faded either side of the front door I feel it’s time to make an autumn wreath for the door. I walked around the garden and collected together flowers, foliage, berries, seeds etc, that I felt looked good together. Materials to make the wreath For the base I used a large rattan wreath from Hobbycraft. I started by winding ivy around the base and added semi dried hydrangea at regular intervals, pushing the stems through the base to hold them in place. Next I added red/purple foliage, pink flowers, and white berries. The stems of all these were pushed through the base to secu ..read more

When September comes around the herbs plants are at their fullest. I like to bring a selection into the kitchen as a useful decoration. The herbs and the chillies will dry on the wreath and can be used in cooking, although I will probably keep mine intact. I start by collecting a selection of herbs of different colours and textures, bunching them together and securing with elastic bands. I am also used three different coloured chillies and some old garlic that was purchased in France last year. The plat from the garlic is formed the base for the wreath. I removed some of the garlic from the p ..read more
