Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope." ~Margaret Thatcher  paraphrasing a St Francis Prayer in her Inauguration Speech May 4, 1979 I was born 18 days after Margaret Thatcher took office as the first female prime minister of Great Britain. I found my daughter's name reading the history of Indira Gandhi, the first and only female prime minister of India. I was that little girl who often answered that I wanted to be President when I grew up. It is over ..read more

Left to Right: My Dad, Rick Walther 11/04/52-08/01/18 and My Uncle Dan, The Man, Casadaban 01/20/53-10/21/21 Without diving into the shit storm that has been my life these last six months I will just give a trigger warning that it has been filled with an enormity of loss and sadness. I can’t possibly touch on the abyss of my feelings because it’s still too raw and tender but I do know I am not alone. I have transformed from the little girl who needed everything separate on her plate and only wanted mac-n-cheese, to the one who tries the sauce on each special part of the dish. This being said in order to translate the beauty of the SF experience I might need to up my food photography game. It was a rather unusual request my Mom brought home right before Christmas this year, a tape cassette player. Maybe someone in San Francisco saved one of these relics to play that epic mix tape they made for their bestie in eighth grade. I put the request on my Buy Nothing group on Facebook and received an outpouring of support. I originally reached out to someone who could convert it to a digital file and then our bubble buddies, who saw our plea, gave us a smallish modern boombox where we could record it to a CD. So here I am sitting in front of my mother curled up in her bed nook staring i ..read more

Dobb’s Ferry ~ Hayes Valley ~ 12/20 With one week left in this traumatic year I feel both my feet grounded in the wet sand and the riptide pulling me under at the same time. I am left speechless attempting to understand the sheer magnitude of the loss we have experienced both as a country and as a planet. We currently have three immediate family members that have Covid in three different cities with varied symptoms and degrees of risk. We lost a close friend over the weekend to addiction which was easily amplified by the shelter in place and was a jarring reminder that the losses of this year ..read more
