The surfers that rolled out of bed early definitely had the best of it in Canggu at the start of the week. A clean little swell kept the lineup busy with both lefts and rights up and down the beach. I just love watching the videos from ‘Surfers of Bali’. Enjoy this one: Surfers in the video: 0:55 – Kayla Tani @kaylatani1:26 – Jasmine @jazstuder__ 2:06 – Tonyo @darmaputratonjo 2:33 – Gilang 3:38 – Marco @marcoranb 4:06 – Tipi Jabrik @tipijabrik ..read more

“I hear people say things about me retiring, like ‘You need to just retire’, blah blah, but I think people don’t understand what a life it’s been.” In 1992, a 20-year-old rookie named Kelly Slater hopped a ride to Bells Beach with his buddy and mentor Tom Carroll. It was the first event of his first year on tour. He won the world title that first year, but he didn’t win Bells. The event challenged him like few others. Now, 32 years later, as the greatest competitive surfer of all time prepares to step away from the heat of battle, we asked Kelly to spend some time with his old friend Tom, wand ..read more

Honestly I’m not sure what to think/feel about this. A part of me loves to watch the wipe outs and the other part of me is always in awe of the “whoa how did they get outta that?!” I’ve only ever gone kitesurfing 3-4 times in the Dominican Republic, so it’s safe for you to assume that I absolutely suck at it. So when I came across this video, I was expecting an epic wipe out. Turns out, Reo Stevens is an absolute beast. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Reo Stevens (@reostevens) Reo Stevens is a pro kitesurfer and ‘foil lord’ from Hawaii from what I’ve read. Reo tucked down into ..read more

Surfing has struggled with going mainstream. You know it, I know it… we all know it. Once you become a surfer, you become a part of a unique culture that most mainstream people simply don’t understand. The masses tend to gravitate towards TV and movies and surfing movies and TV shows have always struggled. It makes sense why when you think about it. Until someone experiences their first wave, they don’t get it. Sure, movies like Blue Crush made surfing look cool and introduced the sport to parts of the USA that is nowhere near the ocean, it didn’t create a mass influx of surfers. So this means ..read more

Nathan Florence, you possess a remarkable ability to navigate through the most challenging circumstances, my friend. This breakdown was truly impressive. You can see just how much Nathan’s videos are helping people by seeing people’s comments. “Nathan mahalo for sharing these important duck diving tips. I’m no way a big wave surfer just 4 maybe 5 feet Hawaiian is my max and even at that size I get completely worked. Seeing you make these split fractional micro second decisions in those size waves, in gnarly conditions with multiple elements thrown at you, was intense. Respect.” –@bestuscitie ..read more
