Reflecting on my Deloitte Digital Connect experience has been really interesting — it’s amazing how much it’s taught me without realising.
I recently baked a vegan carrot cake for the office and when I was asked if I was a vegan and I replied no I’m not, the follow up question was “Why did you bake a vegan cake then?”

Deloitte Digital Connect Programme — my experience
I was tasked with writing an end-of-programme reflection for the Deloitte Digital Connect programme — and I didn’t even know where to start!
As I also told my mentor, this has been such an intense but amazing learning experience, especially on something completely new to me. It was great to hear a group of charities play back their experience and findings from their involvement in the Deloitte Digital Connect programme today.
A key theme for me was the digital capability that each charity has developed as part of their journey. Having heard all of the playbacks from my DDC peer group, one common theme was about the importance of user research. Hearing direct from the service users how they experience our services is absolutely key and can transform how we work.
I am particularly proud that I have gained the skills and the confidence to complete user research myself — I used to think that only a specialist could do this effectively, or that I was not best placed to. This! (As said by one of the Deloitte Digital Connect (DDC) Team in today’s user testing session). Without a doubt this has been the toughest bit of the DDC Programme now nearing its final stages as we start our ‘paper prototypes’ (grab a napkin, sketch out your design and show it to your users for feedback).

I’ve come to the end of the user research section of my digital inclusion project, however what it’s shown me is that there’s actually a lot more research I could do! I chose to survey clients at the end of inbound calls but that’s proven that we’re really good at accepting inbound calls and helping clients that way. It’s also taught me that people who phone don’t necessarily want us to be more digitally accessible.

This is my first time using Medium to record my experiences/feelings/work, so anyone out there that might be reading this — please bear with me! I’m a bit of a dinosaur with #technology, so learning as I go. I’ve spent time today looking at Jamboard, Medium and even Google Drive (a bit embarassing, but there I’ve said it).

Had another amazing session with the #Deloitte and #Cast team today — I’m learning so much, I feel like I’m back at university (not a recent memory…).
I’m starting to practice with some of the tools that they’ve shared and loving the look of Miro (sorry Jamboard, that was short lived) but a bit intimidated by Trello. Going to spend some time sharing my experience with the #SevernWye team and will see what we can use to support our open working. I love hybrid working and realising we can do it much more easily.
Next step is to move my current notes from Excel and JamBoard to Miro :)
