Let the LORD establish His Word

“Let the LORD establish His Word” “In the beginning God said…”  God’s spoken word established the created order and spoke mankind into existence - “…the LORD God…breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”   Everything is established and held by God’s word!  God vowed by His Word to never again to destroy the world by water.  God has vowed by His Word that “whosoever shall call upon the Lord shall be saved!”  God said it and that settles it - “thus says the LORD!”  The bible says, “…by ..read more

Purpose of Prayer

How seriously do you take your prayer life?  Do you have a regular and intentional time to pray?  I’m not talking about prayer before a meal or prayer at church, or about a quick bedtime prayer, “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray to God my soul to take.”  I’m talking about the kind of prayer life that takes you into your “prayer closet” - your alone time with God, uninterrupted. Jesus needed that kind of time alone.  We read all through the scriptures of Jesus doing this very thing.  Jesus modeled for us ..read more

The bible says in 1 Corinthians 15 that “…Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,…” (vv.3-4) - that is the good news of the gospel!  Have you personally reviewed the good news?! The bibles says “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED!” (cf. Romans 10: 9). That was a big moment in your life when you first believed!  We all have big moments in our lives.  Some of those moments may in the f ..read more

Humility - power of the Cross!

Humility.  “The feeling or attitude that you have no special importance that makes you better than others; lack of pride.”  Latin word humilis, meaning “low.”   Humility is not a quality in the white house nor demonstrated much in our society but should be a quality for those that profess Christ.  In fact, God commands us to be humble.  “Seek humility”…”put on humility”…”have a humble mind”…”cloth yourselves with humility toward one another”…” - all bible references.  Humility is closely connected to the quality of “poor in spirit” and ‘“meekness” in which Jesus ..read more

“Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”  The bible reminds us that “nothing shall separate us from the love of God.”  We need reminded of this fact, the disciples needed reminded of this fact.  As Jesus sat down with them in the upper room for the last Passover, He knew what was coming and He also knew their world was going to be shaken and they would need strength to live - to live in light of eternity! I’m sure they had flashbacks of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem that palm Sunday - “blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD” and just a fe ..read more

Je-sus!  Je-sus!  Je-sus!  Je-sus!  We preach Christ!  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” (Ro.1:16) We preach Christ to the unbeliever so the they might be saved.  We preach Christ to the believer so that they might be moved to love Him and obey Him -  become a fully committed follower of Jesus Christ.  That they might be moved to “know Jesus more clearly, to love Him more dearly, and to follow Him more nearly.”  Jesus is the au ..read more

Easter - resurrection day!  But so much was going to transpire on the way to Jerusalem.  This Jesus that is woven into every fabric of the Bible cannot be ignored.  This Jesus of the gospel demands a response from you and me.     As Jesus made His way to the cross (Via Dolorosa - “the way of suffering”) to redeem mankind through His atonement on the cross, not once did He waver.   Even as the crowd went from “Hosanna, Hosanna” to “crucify Him, crucify Him!”, not once did He waver or lose sight of His mission for mankind.  Though He was falsely accused, beate ..read more

For some reason I thought as I got older that life would somehow be easier, less complicated - boy was I wrong!  Please don’t misunderstand me, I am blessed, in fact, if you live in America you are blessed is so many ways.  That being said, life can become wearisome, troublesome, burdensome and anxiety can set in due in part to a variety of things, so many things that are out of our control like: health issues; aging family and friends; loss of loved ones; loss of job; inflation; rapid moral decay of our culture; instability of our Gov’t, Nation and world to just name a few.  Y ..read more

Ah, Valentines Day is fast approaching.  What comes to mind when you think of Valentines Day?  Maybe heart-shaped boxes and candy?  Maybe “be my Valentine” cards?  Maybe, but most likely- love!  A common basic need of mankind is to love and be loved.  Many great movies or plays were written about love - Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”; Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks; Cleopatra and Mark Anthony - just to name a few. There are many love stories (non-fiction) in the Bible as well, just ..read more

“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down…” - Hebrews 11:30 Jehovah Nissi - the LORD is my banner, mighty warrior, victory! Have you heard the saying, “If there is one thing we learn from the scriptures, it’s that we never place a period where God has placed a comma.”  This saying is meant to help us move forward.  The challenge is discerning God’s will in our life.  Life has a way of putting up many walls in our life that seem to be a period, or end of story.  Walls might come in the form of sickness, addiction, divorce, loss, tragedy, age, unmet expectations, unfulfilled ..read more
