Top coats on double barrel poppers

Hey all,   I've been painting double barrel popper heads with Copic markers for a while now, but I've always had trouble with the top coat. The best I've found so far is Loon soft head, but even that will still peel off after a few fish, taking the color with it. I use glue for eyes etc but RaidZap Flex is useful stuff. However, it's so expensive it simply is not viable for me, even if used sparingly. Does anyone have any cheaper alternatives for flexible UV resin?   ..read more

Our humane society has a little thrift store that usually has some nice things. I’ve found several fly fishing and tying related books over the years, likely due to the number of retirees from the northeast.  I dropped off some donations today and took a look through the books.     I thought this was a good find, especially for $2.  Looks like it was never opened.   ..read more

Using “saltwater” materials for trout flies

So being a that I tied saltwater flies for 20 years and now moving into trout flies I was wonder what materials can be used for both aside from deer hair etc,,,   anyone ever use “ultra hair” the early surf candy synthetic for spinner wings?
