The Klinkhåmer Special is probably the most popular fishing fly in the world today. It floats on the end of fly lines on salmon, trout or grayling rivers, from Britain to USA, and Scandinavia to Mongolia. This year marks the fly's 40th anniversary and to celebrate the occasion, its creator Hans van Klinken has at last written his long-awaited first book. Flyfishers for salmon, trout, grayling and coarse species will for the first time learn from Hans himself the secrets behind his miracle... This is my first year trying fly fishing for spring King salmon in freshwater rivers in the WA PNW, and I'm looking for fly suggestions. What should I tie? Streamers? Pink Comet? Leggy Boys? I'm quite new to this and have seen some examples on YouTube, but I'm not always sure about the reliability of those sources. I am new to fly tying but open to try any pattern. If you have any recommendations for fly styles, please let me know! I am using a 8wt 9ft rod with float line. Thank you in advance ..read more

I believe an old tyer named Mike Tucker came up with a technique for weaving liquid lace and ostrich hurl together. I located two of these stud patterns that I tied over 20 years ago and tried to "reverse engineer" one of them to no avail. If there's anyone out there who recalls the technique for interweaving liquid lace and ostrich hurl, please drop me a line if you are willing. I would love to be able to recover that particular technique. Thanks for any assistance in this matter ..read more

Shiatty fly tying - whose tried this?

Have been tying for many many years, and tried lots of different things. Our Shiatsu Max is my new source of cool hair! Shiatsu hair is fluffy and kind of “breathes” like marabou. Very durable, easy to work with, ties down well, doesn’t spin or bind up. Great colors too! Recent trip to Andros, caught every fish but one on flies tied with Shiatsu hair. Bonefish eagerly ate these flies every day, when I made a good presentation, and even sometimes when I didn’t! Buddy went to the Bahamas... Shiatty fly tying - whose tried this ..read more

I've dropped in to visit Art a few times this fall. He's 80 this year and still hard at the vise cranking out Wizards and his other beach patterns. I've picked up about 3 dozen from him over the past couple of years. Not that I use them a lot but I thought if I wanted some Wizards from the guy who created it and knows how to tie it best, I better get them. Some I'll fish, some I'll give to my sons, some I'll put aside to remind me of visits with Art. Some of Art's flies were featured in Art... Art Limber's Wizard ..read more
