In version 1.0.x of Final Cut Pro for iPad, there isn’t an on-screen control, gesture or keyboard command to create a secondary storyline.
Final Cut for Mac users who miss this very useful method for grouping clips together can create secondary storylines using this tip:
Connect a clip to the main storyline (by dragging one from the main storyline or by using the ‘Connect at Playhead’ option of the Edit Mode control from the Project Media pane).
Drag any transition from the Transitions browser to the connected clip.
The clip is turned into a single clip connected storyline with a transition ..read more

Final Cut Pro doesn’t have bins – it has events. Final Cut Pro events hold media and timelines.
The way that collaboration works now for teams of Final Cut Pro editors, assistant editors and others is through using transfer libraries and the third-party PostLab service from Hedge.
As documented in Alex Snelling’s ‘Final Cut Pro Shared & Remote Solutions 2021’ white paper for Frame.io
Essentially PostLab takes the transfer library concept and manages it in the background, using its own cloud storage, allowing users to concentrate on the (editing) job in hand.
In Final Cut Pro terms, PostLa ..read more

Reading is Fundamental! is an application by Intelligent Assistance that adds a versatile document viewer to the Final Cut Pro user interface.
Sometimes a new project or an edit task uses a brief made up of different kinds of documents. Plain text emails, spreadsheets, presentations. With current Macs it is possible to have the apps that can show these documents open at the same time as Final Cut, but having to continually switch between different applications with different user interfaces can put me off my creative flow.
The Reading is Fundamental! window can hold multiple documents of ..read more

In case you missed it, I wrote about how Apple might transition the Mac to Apple Silicon over the next 18 months over on fcp.co. As well as replacing or discontinuing all current Intel-based Macs, Apple have the opportunity to make new Macs for new price points and new markets.
Apple likes to keep Macs at the same price points over the years. This means the extra power the M-series SoCs will provide more Mac at the same price. Not new Macs with the same power at lower price points.
I suggest that a new industrial design for iMacs could include a transparent bezel – like the outer edge of the ..read more
