Klipsch RB-5 sounding a bit "muddy"

So some heathen... at some point decided to ditch the grills and screw on these ugly acoustically inefficient woofer "waffle" grills ...and on top of that, they did a sloppy job doing it. Rumor has it they came from a recording studio... which might explain the reason behind the modification The grills should have had spacers under the four hold-down tabs and the screw holes in the MDF should have been predrilled rather than muscled. So on inspection, I found some MDF damage where the... Read more ..read more

Replacement for Erse Super Q Coils

OK does anyone know of an alternate source from defunct ERSE for these or something like these? Other values needed too but I figure if I find one there will be more there. Now my next question is is there a worthy substitute for these? Seems like choices get fewer and quality drops in so many ways now for things I used to reliably get whenever I needed them. Waiting again for wirewound resistors from PE but at least they have them half the time. ERSE Super Q 1.5mH 16 AWG 500W... Read more ..read more

Working With Wood

One of the really satisfying things I get to do is work with wood for free standing tweeters or SMAHL tweeters.. I live near a bunch of Amish and one of them has a big band saw and a wood fired kiln. So I can cut trees and take them to him for slabbing and kiln drying, or get what he has on hand. Taking logs to him is a lengthy process where he slabs them and then they sit and air dry for roughly 6 months. Once they reach a certain moisture level he puts them in the kiln for about a month... I have never heard Klipsch Heritage speakers until yesterday. Over the past couple years I have put together a little tube system. My experience with speakers has mostly been of the vintage variety. I do however have a pair of new Monitor Audio Silver 500s and vintage Infinity RS3B. Neither speaker is overly efficient. I have been using them with the tubes and they do sound pretty awesome. Klipsch speakers are ones I have wanted to try in my system, since they are very efficient and... Read more ..read more

Help with Khorn speaker ID

I have a pair of 1977 Decorator Series Khorns they appear to be close to original. They are using the AA Klipsch crossovers; does any one know what drivers these cabinets should have? The woofers are mismatched 1 square magnet and the other round, however I am pretty sure that neither is aftermarket. The mids are K55-V and they have the shape and paint color of an original piece. The tweeters have no labeling that I can see and their short horns do not have the horizontal front ribs... Read more ..read more

I'm scheduled to go pick up my Khorns next weekend, and I'm trying to figure out if they both will fit in my daughter's SUV. Right now I am making cardboard models so I can actually try them in her SUV and ensure her SUV will work. The dimensions the seller gave me, don't look quite right they are 50"H x 31"Wx 28"deep. All of these agree with what I can learn from the Klipsch site. But can someone here tell me; what is the measurement of the back (seller say 12") and what are the... Read more ..read more

PRV-700 (?)

I have finally come up with a prototype midrange horn that fits in the Heresy 1.5 and accepts the PRV D2200ph driver. The transition from the 2 inch driver exit to the rectangular opening on the motor board isn't ideal, but I'm starting to think this may work. I'll need to pull the K701 out of my Heresy to configure the mounting plate, but here's the result so far. The horn will mount from the back and end up flush with the front. I plotted the driver in the PRV 18x10 horn... Read more ..read more

A question for Klipschorn owners with collared top hats

I need some dimensions of the top hats on Klipschorns. What I'm looking for is the literal width of the front, the depth down the sides, and even the length of the angled section back to the "point". Dimensions on the web are very vague so I'm hoping someone with a pair could measure those for me. Also would like the length from the very front edge to that back "point". The most informative is a thread in the "community" from back in 2009 but I don't need all of the intricacies as I'm... Read more ..read more
