A new 24-hour gym just opened in downtown Jersey City. Snap Fitness recently opened at 139 Brunswick (in the base of The Oasis condominiums). Snap Fitness is the first and only gym in the vicinity that’s available 24 hours for members.

Newport Centre is getting a new tenant. Signage is up for Dick’s Sporting Goods, which is opening in the second floor of the mall near the H&M. The store offers a wide range of sports equipment, apparel, and gear. The announcement was made this week via the Newport Centre Instagram account.
Dick’s Sporting Goods is one of the leading retailers of sporting products. It operates about 853 stores across the United States. A new market is coming to Jersey City. The Coles Street Market will make its debut on Tuesday, April 16 at Coles Street Park at 305 Coles Street. The market will operate every Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm through December 10.

A high-end convenience store and premium wine shop are opening at Overlook Flats, a new 16-story luxury rental building located at 32 Oakland Avenue in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood. Overlook Market and Overlook Wine & Spirits will occupy two retail spaces totaling 2,882 square feet.

One of Jersey City’s oldest eateries is expanding. Buon Appetito, currently operating at 520 Jersey Avenue, is moving into 280 First Street. The space was previously the home of Just Beclaws, which abruptly closed back in December.
Buon Appetito offers a mix of pizzas, subs, and pastas. Back in 2020, they briefly expanded with Rig a Tony’s, an Italian deli and pizzeria. Mark your calendars: The first outdoor food festival of 2024 is right around the corner. Organizers of the Jersey City Night Market have announced their season opener will be held on Saturday, April 6.
The event, which will be held at the City Hall Ancillary Lot (179 Montgomery), will feature a wide array of food options, craft beers, and live music. In previous years, vendors have included Jersey City’s own 902 Brewing, Argentinian wood fire BBQ from Master Asador, Japanese eats from Menya Jiro, and Bolivian food truck Tunkas.

Contactless free payment options are coming to more PATH stations. Last week, the Port Authority announced that it was expanding its TAPP pilot program to more PATH stations. TAPP turnstiles can now be found at the WTC, 33rd Street, Journal Square, Newark, Hoboken, and Harrison stations. According to the Port Authority, these six stations are the system’s busiest and accounted for 67% of total ridership in 2023.
