In several of the latest 2024 NFL mock drafts, the Washington Commanders select LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. believes Daniels is a better fit for Washington under an “offense designed by Kliff Kingsbury” than North Carolina’s Drake Maye and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
“We’re also into how you tailor your offense to suit what the quarterback does,” Kiper told ABC News’ Scott Abraham. “When Lemar Jackson came to Baltimore, and they had Joe Flacco, they had to change from a pocket passer to a Lamar Jackson, who is a dual threat.

The Commanders hold a lot of power with the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and it leaves the Patriots playing the wait-and-see game for which quarterback prospect they can pick.
It’s a reality New England head coach Jerod Mayo understood, and Washington’s been tight-lipped publicly on which signal-caller prospect it prefers. ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed Jayden Daniels is the preference. Multiple mock drafts think Drake Maye is the pick. And NFL executives believe J.J. McCarthy could be an option, too.

There shouldn’t be much surprise on what the Chicago Bears do with the No. 1 pick, but the Washington Commanders are the biggest wild card in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Caleb Williams is the consensus best player in the draft, and Chicago likely will select the USC product first overall. However, there hasn’t been a consensus on what Washington will do with the No. 2 pick.
Drake Maye for months was the second overall pick in the majority of mock drafts, but Jayden Daniels’ stock grew to the point where evaluators believe he could be the No. 2 pick.

The Patriots might love Jayden Daniels. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has a very exciting skill set that could fast-track the rebuild going on in New England.
The problem? It doesn’t sound like Jerod Mayo and company will have the opportunity to draft the LSU product.
On the latest episode of his self-titled podcast, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed how he sees the Commanders using the No. 2 overall pick. Of course, Washington’s selection squarely impacts how the Patriots can utilize their highest draft selection since 1993.

The competition for the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft looks like it could be a three-horse race rather than a head-to-head matchup.
But if you ask one NFL offensive coordinator, the decision was made after Jayden Daniels’ Pro Day in Baton Rouge.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer published a column Tuesday morning with a handful of takeaways from the Pro Day circuit, which also included Drake Maye’s Pro Day in North Carolina. Breer quoted an anonymous offensive coordinator who praised Daniels and said the Heisman Trophy winner “solidified” himself as the No. 2 pick.

Rick Spielman is like everyone in the fact he has his own opinion about the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
But Spielman is unlike many when it comes to his connection to the Washington Commanders, who hold the second overall pick in the draft.
Spielman was hired as an advisor to Washington owner Josh Harris in January. He helped identify candidates for the Commanders general manager position, which went to Adam Peters, and then was part of the advisory committee that aided in the hiring of head coach Dan Quinn.
Simply put, Spielman has connections in Washington.

The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and thus hold the fate of the world in their hands.
… Well, kind of.
But with Chicago’s selection of Caleb Williams all but written on the draft card, it’s not the Bears who represent the biggest question mark.
New England Patriots first-year head coach Jerod Mayo, much like everyone else, knows it’s the Washington Commanders who really present the biggest domino. And Mayo is much like the common fan in that he has no idea what general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have in mind.

It’s long been believed the New England Patriots would have to settle for whichever of the top three quarterback prospects falls to them. The Patriots aren’t set to be on the clock until No. 3 overall, giving the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders first dibs on the signal-callers they want.
Caleb Williams is the clear favorite to go to Chicago at No. 1 overall. The expectation was the Commanders would draft either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye with the next pick. Those three quarterbacks have continued to be the consensus top three in the eyes of many draft experts.

The Washington Commanders are in a position of strength entering the 2024 NFL Draft.
Washington owns the second pick behind only the Chicago Bears, who are expected to select Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall. Thus, the Commanders will have a number of signal-callers there for the taking including Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, who long have been considered among the consensus top three behind Williams.
However, NFL executives aren’t so sure the Commanders will select either Daniels or Maye. Instead, a number of execs reportedly believe Washington could draft Michigan product J.J. McCart ..read more

There is a clear consensus on how the top of the 2024 NFL Draft will play out, but the New England Patriots might have to play the waiting game before they decide what to do with the No. 3 pick.
NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah reported last Friday that there is a “strong expectation” that the top four picks will be quarterbacks. The question is what order will they be selected? Caleb Williams is expected to go No. 1 to the Chicago Bears, and J.J. McCarthy likely will be the consolation prize for anyone who couldn’t jump into the top three. All eyes will be on what the Washington Commanders ..read more
