Outside of Dan Quinn’s T-shirt, rookie defensive tackle Johnny Newton’s foot injury was the talk of last weekend for the Washington Commanders. Newton appeared at rookie minicamp with a boot on his foot. That wasn’t a shock, as Newton had surgery in January to repair a Jones fracture in his foot. Jones suffered the injury sometime during the 2023 season at Illinois and still won the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award. However, the shock was that Newton needed surgery on the other foot. According to Quinn, the doctor discovered Newton had a similar condition in the opposite foot and wou ..read more

Just before the Washington Commanders opened rookie minicamp last Friday, punter Tress Way released a video revealing he had given his No. 5 jersey to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. It was an emotional decision for the Pro Bowl punter and Washington’s longest-tenured player. On Saturday, Daniels expressed gratitude by opening his press conference by thanking Way. While last weekend was just for the rookie, the entire team reported back to Ashburn this weekend for the opening of Offseason Training Activities (OTAs). That meant Way would need a number. He had a new number — sort of. Way jogg ..read more

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn went viral on Saturday during the team’s rookie minicamp. It was not because of anything said but, instead, because of the shirt he was wearing. Quinn wore a non-licensed Commanders’ shirt with feathers from the team’s former logo on the current logo, which some made a big deal of. On Tuesday, Washington opened the third phase of its offseason program with its first Offseason Training Activity (OTA). Before Washington took the field, Quinn spoke to the media and, of course, was asked about the T-shirt. “I think one of the parts of me taking this job ..read more

What does Jayden Daniels have to do to get better every day? That was the question set forth to ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky on Monday during the “NFL Live” program. Orlovsky did not answer with an answer focused upon the NFL inexperience of a rookie quarterback, as one might expect. No, Orlovsky aimed his reply at what he sees is going to make things harder for Daniels in his rookie season. “A feel for dominant defensive lines,” opened Orlovsky.
