The Commanders announced on Tuesday that they have released veteran QB Jake Fromm.
Fromm, 25, was drafted by the Bills in the fifth round out of Georgia in 2020. He was entering the second year of a four-year, $3.6 million rookie contract when Buffalo waived him coming out of the preseason.
The Giants signed Fromm off the Bills’ practice squad and he wound up starting for them at the end of the 2021 season. The Commanders signed him to their practice squad and re-signed him to a futures deal for the 2023 season.

The Commanders went through a massive overhaul this off bringing in a new coach, GM, and first-round QB Jayden Daniels in the draft. Washington WR Jahan Dotson loves the pick and notes it feels like a new team around the building.
“I’m really hyped, that’s the pick that I wanted, so I am happy we got him,” Dotson said, via Scott Abraham of ABC 7. “I texted him right when he got drafted, and I said, ‘Congrats, man.’ He said, ‘Let’s get to work.’ It’s exciting……the fans should be really excited for this one.”

The Washington Commanders announced Tuesday that they’ve waived LB Brandon Bouyer-Randle, CB D’Angelo Mandell and DE Joshua Pryor.
Pryor, 24, wound up going undrafted out of Bowie State back in May of last year. He later signed a rookie contract with the Commanders, but was waived coming out of the preseason.
From there. Pryor signed on to the Commanders practice squad and was on and off of the unit through the season.
Washington did eventually call Pryor up to finish out the season in December.

Despite plenty of offers to move down in the draft, the Commanders stood pat and took first-round QB Jayden Daniels. Washington GM Adam Peters stated they only had one offer worth consideration.
“I think you’d be surprised, really, in terms of the offers,” Peters said, via Bryan Manning of USA Today. “We got, really one solid offer and didn’t even move the needle. It would have taken — it had to move mountains to get us off Jayden [Daniels].”

Mike Sando of The Athletic cites an anonymous NFL executive who believes what the Commanders do in next year’s offseason will be the determining factor in Jayden Daniels‘ success.
“When you take a quarterback, you can draft a bunch of players to support him, but sometimes it is hard when you are forcing it,” an executive said. “What they do next offseason to really make this quarterback successful will be interesting.”
Another executive thinks OC Kliff Kingsbury‘s offense will benefit Daniels.
“The way the offensive coordinator (Kliff Kingsbury) will use the skill player ..read more

Undrafted free agency is an important part of the team-building process. From a pure numbers perspective, the NFL has to rely on undrafted free agents to compromise somewhere between a quarter and a third of all active players — not even counting practice squads. There were 257 players drafted last month and at least that many, probably more than 300, will be signed as undrafted free agents.
That makes undrafted free agency a potentially important source of talent. Ninety percent of these players will be cut and wash out of the NFL in a few years. But there will be a couple dozen who sti ..read more
