According to recent reports, there are calls for children’s heart surgery to resume in Wales. Currently, under-16s have to travel to England for heart surgery, and have had to do so since 1998. The Welsh government said children are treated across the border where there’s “higher levels of specialism in dealing with these complex conditions”. According to recent reports, an MRI scanning service has been issued with a warning notice to make “significant improvements” after inspectors rated it inadequate. Wales have recently announced changes to cervical screening tests- increasing the time between smear tests from three to five years. This may lead to a rise in cervical cancer smear test negligence. However, a top gynaecologist has said changes in cervical cancer screenings will help save lives, not put them at risk. The British Heart Foundation Cymru have recently said that women are at higher risk of misdiagnosis of heart attacks and heart disease. This is because they are not seen as at risk. A man has launched a High Court claim on behalf of his wife against a local NHS trust after she suffered severe brain damage. She suffered brain damage because of delays in diagnosis and treatment. Figures suggest that there have been 34,000 fewer diagnoses of cancer in England since the start of the pandemic, and 50,000 fewer in the UK. A recent inquest has found that doctors missed opportunities to save a four-year-old girl dying from sepsis. The girl became ill with an upset stomach and died days later. The assistant coroner said that negligence contributed to her death.
