Here are the important things to keep in mind for spring! Please read this thoroughly before booking! *I am offering a mix of 60 min sessions, petite 30 min sessions, and a few bluebonnet mini session dates Full hour sessions mostly take place on Sundays and can be redeemed anywhere in Austin/the surrounding area. There are two Sunday dates, though, that must take place in the West Austin area due to my childcare constraints those days. I might be biased, but I do think the best locations are around there. *I am offering petite 30 minute sessions on Tuesdays with a rain date on Thu ..read more

Bluebonnet Fields in Austin | Austin Family Photographer

Bluebonnet season is admittedly a Texan’s favorite time of year. Even though our winters are mostly mild, families look forward to this coveted first sign of spring. The best part about bluebonnets in Austin? Taking photos in them! While many wildflowers are scratchy and itchy, bluebonnets are soft and fluffy – especially in the best patches. Here are a few of my favorite bluebonnet fields in Austin, from an Austin family photographer! Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area This is my absolute favorite place to take bluebonnet photos. Though they tend to pop up later here than in other spots, with the ..read more

So, you have a newborn client. You are so excited to capture this beautiful and incredible time in your client’s life! Only problem is, this precious newborn has a big sibling, and you’re not quite sure how to capture swoon worthy photos of them both. Here are five of my favorite sibling poses for your Austin newborn session! Pose #1: Sibling Behind Baby This is a classic. The Ortballs Family | Fall Session in Austin, Texas

My favorite thing about being a photographer is watching families grow. The privilege of them choosing me year after year, while their kids morph from cherub faced infants into toothless elementary schoolers, will never get old. When I started photographing Erin’s family, they were a family of four – now they have their sweet one year old son, Jacob, added to the mix. And let me just say…they are just the sweetest family. Erin also has a group of wonderful friends who have used me over the years, too, and watching their families grow has been my favorite part of being here in Austin. Truly. R ..read more

Tips for Photographing at Sekrit Theater | Austin Family Photographer
Jessica Rockowitz Blog
by Jessica Rockowitz

Sekrit Theater is one of the most popular photography spots in Austin, and for good reason! With its glass greenhouse and checkered floor, it has an almost ethereal quality to it that attracts photographers from all over. A lot of photographers are also intimidated by the location because they aren’t sure how to manipulate such different light. As someone who has done many shoots at this venue, here are my best tips for photographing at Sekrit Theater.  Shoot Earlier Sekrit Theater has funky light, there is no doubt about it. In the spring, summer, and early fall months, the venue is very ..read more

The Heath Twins | Austin Newborn Photographer

Growing up, I used to tell people that I was a twin. This is because as someone who was raised without siblings (mine are older, so they were out of the house when I was still young), I longed for a buddy. I was obsessed with Sister, Sister (remember that show?!) and longed for a twin of my own. Maybe thats why photographing twins always has my heart. The Heath Twins were part of my Hybrid Newborn Sessions with Kat Schaper Photography. What is a hybrid newborn? The best of both worlds! It’s for families that want some posed studio images of baby solo and the magical lifestyle images. We guar ..read more

A family of boys has my heart. Mama is treated like the queen that she is, and boys sure do love their moms. This is spoken from my own experience as a boy and girl mom. These beautiful boys love sports, school, and being super silly. The oldest is just at the cusp of that age where he might be “too cool” for family photos, yet here is he snuggling his mama and loving on his brothers. When I asked Cassidy how her kids felt about picture day, she laughed and said they typically want to “get it over with.” I took that to heart and decided that we needed to have our session at a really interacti ..read more
